View Full Version : N760 or wait for TG50?

Should I buy a N760 now or wait for the TG50. I’d like to have the ability to use WiFi with the Clie, but since it’s only Sony card supported, that becomes less important because of the outrageous price.
Graffiti either way doesn’t bother me. I do like the thumb kb w/TG50, but I wouldn’t die without it.

The big thing is sync. Will I need Missing Sync with a G3 OS 9.x and Desktop 4.0? Or will the N760 sync with a Mac at all?
What about when I upgrade alter this year to a G4 and OSX?

MarkSpace says “Will Missing Sync work with Palm Desktop 4.0 and OS 9.x?

We do not officially support that combo, but an unsupported beta version for OS 9/PD 4 is at http://www.markspace.com/testing/ (it will not work with NX or NZ series, but will work with prior models).

Supported configurations are PDT 2.6.3 and OS 9 and PDT 4.0 and OS X.“

the choice of which handheld is kind of like the choice for your kid's name. i wouldn't begin to suggest which one is best (my personal preference for nx70v wouldn't apply to your question).

however, as for missing sync - get it. get it if you are using 9.x. get it if you are using desktop 2.3.x. get it if you are using desktop 4.x. get it if you are going to upgrad to os 10.x. (i'm sure you see a trend developing). markspace is very good about quickly supporting new machines (some people will disagree with me, but having working software out of beta with in a couple of months of a device being released and the device company not releasing any info to developers is amazing!)

I’ve seen a couple other of your posts. You seem pretty positive on MarkSpace. I did like the response that the Pres of the company (whose name eludes me now) posted. I can certainly see the difficulty “developing” for such a close minded mega corp as Sony. I’m kind of sorry to want to trade up to their product from my current Palm, but they do have the goods and I don’t think the other 2 will survive the year as HW companys.
It sounds like MS will make the difference.

Model choice is certainly a challenge. I looked at the NX70/60 with great interest. I‘m not too much about the camera, or the 200MHz proc speed, I’ve seen a friends 33MHz N760 and that was pretty nice. But MP3 r'crd & play are very appealing. Then there’s the 802 slot, I don’t need it but it’d be mighty tasty here in NYC. I looked at the T665, but the buttons bugged me.
Still, I guess I’m gonna wait on the TG50 debut (and hope it keeps the end of March timetable and that my IIIe hold up) and then decide.

While we’re at it. Are you using the Eudora package for browsing and email by chance? I like it with the Palm IIIe, and that’s some tiny memory.
I assume that the Clies in general are pretty good with most Palm apps out there?

Thanks for your input.

i am happy with markspace simply because i like things that work without me having to do a lot.

as for the email and browsing, i don't use my clie for those. it's not that the clie wouldn't do a fine job, but my powerbook does it much better:p

as for the difference between the 33mhz and the 200 mhz - you won't believe the difference 6 times the speed makes for any kind of graphic intense programs (maps, games, etc.) while it's true you won't see much (if any) difference scrolling through the contacts, it sure makes the mapopolis program fly.:D

powerbooks sure do that well. On a job last week, we had the entire sound dept linked via Airport (everyone had splurged and had Ti 12” or 15”) with the exception of a couple of embarrassed Doze machines. Very handy for rapidly changing input sheets. And of course we checked mail with it. I was one of the few without a pbook. But I think this year, there will be some new “office” equipment purchased. The graphics is something to be considered, especially for train rides and the like. hmmmmm
