Hello,

I am hoping for some illumination on a problem with a Tungsten E. The battery was allowed to run down on it and now I get this message:

"Fatal Error DataMgr.c, Line: 7399, DmWrite:DmWriteCheck failed"

message occurs during sync.

The OS V. is that which came with it. Used primarily to sync with Outlook XP on an XP laptop for calendar and address. I have done the hard reset and attempted reload per Solution ID 9927 in the Palm database. After the hard reset, the Fatal Error message occurs when syncing the address book.

Any thoughts?

It has the minimal set of apps; other than the stuff needed to synch with Outlook on a laptop, nothing fancy (no games or phone stuff).

Thanks,

Jim

Try doing a hard reset and syncing to a "dummy" user that contains no data or backup files. The hard reset should wipe the machine clean, so there may be a problem with your palm desktop if the above doesn't seem to cure it.

If it does cure it, remove the backups after a hard reset and sync. If that works start adding programs back slowly.

Thanks, after further troubleshooting, I just uninstalled the Palm Windows Desktop application and all the unnecessary apps on the Palm. I also got the latest Docs to Go apps and pushed them onto the Palm, since that seems to be an issue in some of the forum posts I have seen. It appears to have fixed the problem. However, this points to another issue.

The backup features of the Palm desktop client stink, to put it bluntly (e.g., for backing up the data on the Palm to the desktop). Fortunately, the Palm was synching with Outlook and the Outlook data is fairly current.

Any suggestions on a better backup program than the Palm supplied one?

I am going to automate backup of the the Outlook pst file (it always gets the Palm updates), so this may be a moot issue, but it would be nice to backup the Palm device as well.

After already saving my butt twice, I can whole-heartedly recommend this software: BackupBuddy:VFS.

http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/backupbuddyvfs_free.shtml

Although the free version can be found on FreewarePalm, this free version is discontinued and I have no idea on support. (Works fine on my TE though)

If you need more complex options, like backing up/restoring individual files, you can opt to pay for a version through Blue Nomad

http://www.bluenomad.com/bbvfs/prod_bbvfs_details.html

HINT: If you have a file explorer, such as FileZ, restoring individual files is only 1 or 2 extra taps

Hope this helps.
