If anyone has used their TC for Wi-Fi to the Internet you'll probably notice not all websites are accessble from tapping a link in other webpages. You'll get a Browser Error message that says, "Pop-up windows are not supported by this version of the Web Browser".

I asked PalmTechSup't what's up with this, and they told me that, "WebPro 2.0, which does not support pop-up windows, is the browser included in your TC, and that this was due to some "technical compatibility issues". However, those issues were resolved with WebPro 3.0 which was released after the release of the TC.

The kicker is, that if you want WebPro 3.0, Palm wants $34.99 for it. Apparently it's not a free upgrade to TC owners.

You can buy it at: www.palmone.com/us/software/webpro30

This is not right, Palm shouldn't have released the TC if there were "compatibility issues" with the browser. And now that they've resolved those issues they want us to foot the bill for their mistakes. Having a browser that won't access other wesites from all links is like buying a car with an engine, nut no wheels, or vice/versa.

If anyone agreees that WebPro 3.0 should be a free upgrade, or at least offered to TC owners at a significant discount, please speak up. Maybe we should take a poll.

I hope WebPro 3.0 is in v6.0, or Cobalt, or whatever they're calling it these days. About v6.0, has anyone heard if it's going to be a free upgrade, or are they going to charge us for that to?

I have experienced the same problem. Palm adopted the Bill Gates approach "sell the user an incomplete product and the sell them a correction." Auto manufacturers recall and repair an their expense. Let's remember this approach when we buy a new pda.

Well, I don't think it's that bad. They have a fully working browser that did not support pop-ups. It is annoying, yes, but even WebPro 3 doesn't support all websites (and that's true for netscape, or any non-MS browsers since websites might write something specific for IE --- and IE might not work on the very very few websites that still use the old Netscape stuff). For example, WebPro 3 won't support Java applets. Or flash. Or shockwave. So, it is logical they can release a WebPro 4 with Flash support, and obviously, it would also be logical for them to charge for it. Since they did release Web Pro 3 AFTER they shipped the Tungsten C, it is reasonable for them to charge for any upgrades in the future. I wish they would provide a deep discount for TC users though --- since we have already paid good money for a device... and the included browser is really quite crummy. BTW, I don't think I like WebPro 3. Somehow, it seems to be slower when downloading webpages!
