I noticed on a video interview of Palmsource CEO David Nagel at ZDnet, he states that the english version of Cobalt (OS 6) will only require 8mb of space. So I am thinking that my T3 will easily be able to upgrade. Now I guess we will wait for PalmOne to see if they will support an upgrade or give us the hose.

I think we will get first OS Garnet. Perhaps later a OS Cobalt upgrade will be available, but looking far far away

If there is going to be an upgrade for flashable Palm's, I don't think we'll see it until after Cobalt PDA's are on the market.

I agree that a upgrade would not be available until after the initial models are released. Depending on the models I might just buy a new one as it normally is the case with me it seems. After buying the T3 the day it came out I have learned to wait a few months for everything to catch up anyways so a fall upgrade would be great.

I have a sense that it will be a bit like trying to run Win XP on an old DOS machine... possible but not worth the trouble. But that may be because that was my experience in the Windows world.

The T3 has so much now, the only way I'd buy another Palm if it had VGA.

I don't really think so. The TC and T3 have approximately the same hardware as the top PPC units and I don't see any great improvements in hardware for the short time. a 400Mhz ARM processor is high end now, but won't be considered slow for another year or more I would guess.

According to the editor at Brighthand the new Palm OS will NOT do a landscape as my T3 does not with every application I have! What ever are they thinking!!! It its true then I will NOT be upgrading.

well i think they say its up to the licencee (in this case palm one) to include the landscape suport like in T3.. i dun fink its a problem since they can do it in the os 5.21... it should b easy to implement..

I don't think the T3 is going to be such a "shoe in" as we think for Cobolt.
Nvidia is producing PDA video chips for the new line of Palm OS devices, and I think our T3's aren't going to be able to keep up as well as a dedicated video chip.

Everyone here running 5.2.1 is basicly running Garnet. Garnet only has a few updates which may/may not interest us.

The original buzz a few months ago was that the T3 was originally designed to be a Cobalt unit but was rushed into production to match the current PPCs. If that were true, and I don't know that it is, then the T3 should easily handle cobalt. True or not, I think the T3 is up to the challenge.

According to the David Nagel's article the Cobalt was tested on an ARM 200mhz device and was said to be really zippy. I am sure T3 is more then sufficient to handle the new os. Only thing it doesn't support is the native landscape mode like our current OS, but they are leaving it up to the other vendors to implement such features. The question is, will they offer us the upgrades??? PLEASE???
