I have a question, which searching the forums has not displayed the answer to, so I was hoping a post would bring an answer.

I have two laptop PC's at home connected to a Linksys router and a cable modem for sharing my broadband connection.

I installed the Palm Desktop on both laptop PC's with the idea that I could use EITHER laptop to perform hotsync operations.

This is not working as I expected. On the 2nd PC, I answered the dialog box that it was NOT the primary hotsync PC. When I add items to the Quick Install box, and perform a hotsync, instead of adding the items from the laptop that I am using, it pulls info across the network and hotsyncs from the primary PC.

The only reason I set it up on 2 PC's is so I could add applications from a 2nd PC if the primary PC was in use. I don't intend to try to keep address, e-mail, and such things current on 2 PC's.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

I'm not sure exactly which PC has to be set, but try IN THIS ORDER:

1. - Set your PRIMARY pc up by right clicking the icon in the system tray, and checking the NETWORK option.

Try Hotsyncing from the 2nd computer.

If that doesn't work,

2. - Repeat step one on the SECONDARY Pc

That will definitely work, as I've tried this route.

A note though: With my long list of conduits on the 1st pc (including 13 Jpluck sites), I don't use a network sync, I just sync my data and any extra applications from the 2nd pc on standalone. With only the preinstalled conduits, plus mail, it's very quick. Hope this helps.

in usual stupidity, i didn't completely understand until after I hit the post button.

To sync with your laptop, but keep your other computer as the primary, just make sure that the network checks I described above are NOT checked. That will make sure that the PDA syncs with the computer it's plugged into, not the network one.

Sorry for the need for a 2nd post

Can I ask a quick question to clarify, because I had given up on the network option? If my desktop is my selected primary PC, but I need to sync from my laptop (kids are always occupying the desktop), is there a way to sync so that the all the conduits (JPluck, etc.) sync, as they are on my primary PC, but that the DateBk5 info (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, etc.) update on both PCs? I sync with Outlook and have the same on both the desktop and the laptop. And do I check Network on the desktop or the laptop, or both? (I'm sorry, I'm just so confused.)

As far as I know (which isn't very far on this topic), if you wanted to sync both ways, you would have to run a network sync once (Both desktop and laptop "Network" checked) and then disable "Network" on the laptop. This will force the palm to synchronize with the computer it is connected to. Just leave the network option on the desktop PC on 24/7 - once that is set, you should never have to change that unless you want to disable Network Hotsync for good. Hope this helps.

Got it! I'm going to try that! Thanks so much! I had totally given up on the Network thing and just tried to slip in on the desktop between kids! LOL I gotta be quick to pull that off. ;)
