I´ma going happily back to the Palm, after fiddling with the "Big Black Brick" for a good while. I am seriously looking at the T3 (or rather drooling over it)...

Are there any concerns that I should know about before shelling out my hard earned cash?

Please advise!

Hi,
some people complain about a yellowish screen (which is a question of your preference - the yellowish one has warmer colors than the other one), other about a loose slider mechanism. This is something you might want to check if you are going to buy in a store. You should check if the T3-update is applied before you use a SD-card (but this is not that important since you can update the device without problems).

Issues that many have had to deal with:

-Digitizer/calibration is a problem for many users. Mine's going back soon if I can't fix it.

-A lot of variation with screen color/brightness---no deal killer tho'

-3rd party app compatibility improving but SLOWLY. Can't use about 10 of the apps that I still use with my Z71.

Except for the calibration problem, I have been very satisfied with the T3. Good luck!

I moved up from a T|E to mine, so most of the differences that I noticed might not be issues for you at all.

HOWEVER... I'm getting pretty good and tired of the apparent disconnect between Palm and Dataviz about keeping Documents To Go (which Palm helpfully and permanently embedded in the ROM!) compatible with the T3 and its various patches. I've had to check for one set of updates to the basic unit, upgrade my Palm Wireless Keyboard driver, and upgrade my Documents To Go application just to get the program to use all of the command and function keys properly... and now Palm has issued a security update that makes the darn application crash the machine AGAIN. Does Dataviz post patch to solve the problem they've identified? No, you have to go through tech support and get them to email you three files to install. Sheesh.

Aside from that, the T3 rocks. Just get used to checking the forums for other peoples' experiences before installing updates or new versions of the included software.

The only problem I have had with mine is with Documents to Go, which comes preinstalled. It has been constantly locking up when it starts up. I read somewhere that it has to do with the latest Palm security update, but since I like QuickOffice better, I have been using that instead.

I love the dynamic graffiti area, and the skins available for it. And being able to choose the size of your screen, from 320x320 or 320x480, is such and awesome feature that no other palm has. Not that I know of.

In my opinion, the T|T3 is the best Palm powered handheld on the market.

I've had mine since day one and I love it. The screen is the best in the market, and 400 MHz/64MB RAM (52 user-available) can't be beat with a stick. Almost all major apps have updated to support the 320x480 and landscape modes. Go for it!

I'm on my 3rd T3 (latest one received yesterday) and even so, I still think it's the best PDA on the market. I don't think you can go wrong with it.

Thanx fellas!

I am really happy with the choice that with your help I will make. To be honest, the T3 is beautiful, albeit--probably for never having dealt with one--scared me due to the slider.

Well, in any case, I think that some common sense and gentleness in the handling will keep me trouble-free, as has been the case with the NZ's fragile screen rotating hinge mechanism.

I hope that I can soon be another T3 happy camper!

-Cheers, and thanx again.
