By the way, for any of you guys that did not know this, if you buy the nz from directdial or sony etc, you can take it over to compusmart and put a 3-yr warranty on it for 150 cdn.

You just have to show them the receipt, and it must have been bought in Canada, and within 30 days of the purchase.

150 is not great but it is one of those replacement warranties. I know futureshop only charges 100 for their 3-yr, but they have no idea when they are getting the nz.

I can't remember if the sonycare is 2 yrs (ontop of original) for 100 or 150, but I might do the compusmart thing anyway because I've always had good experiences with them...

I usually found those replacement warranties a scam.
You know, simple to buy - hard to replace... type of thing.

Have you actually been in situation where you had to get a replacement using such warranty ?

Thanks,
dks

No.... not really. But I had an extended warranty with Futureshop for a casio e 115. I then sold the ppc to a co-worker, who didn't like the miniscule scratches in the transcriber section - so he took it to FShop and they gave him a brand new 125 in return.

I think if something legitimately goes wrong with your device and after you have taken it in twice, three times max., if you tell them strongly that you want a replacement, they will give you new or one up...

In any case, it's big piece of mind for me. I bought ext. warranties on my old jornadas. But I didn't for two ipaqs and a J568, and all three were defective! All of them were replaced under the original warranty, but now my 568 is buggy (over a year) and I'm sol!

I think with the nz, the camera etc... it needs an ext. warranty - you see in the nx forum lots of screwy things can happen. And since this is my first palm, I don't know what to expect...

But - also dks99 - they can discount that warranty too. I know a guy named Ali at Compusmart. I will see what he can offer...
