Does anyone know if there are any "official" plans to support synchronization of a Clie with OSX? As nice as I'm sure MissingSync is, having to pay for that missing functionality is like buying a car & having to spend extra for a steering wheel -- as a matter of principle, I'd rather not go down that path & encourage such a business model.

Sony's site just points you to Missing Sync (and seeing as Macs are competition to Vaios, this isn't surprising to me). Apple claims that Clies work with iSync ....but you need Palm's sync software (itself an annoyance, but at least one you don't have to pay for) ...and then on top of that you still need Missing Sync.

Can't one of these companies just get up & do it themselves rather than let their customers get fleeced by third party vendors?

As it is now, I've got a Mac at home, and have access to a Mac and a Win2k machine at work -- so I can at least sync to the PC, but I can't sync at all when I'm at home. If Sony or Apple were to offer or endorse a free (or at least, free-with-the-OS/PDA/etc) method to sync with Clies, I'd actually be willing to buy a second cradle so I could leave one at home & the other at work.

Got it? I would be willing to buy more hardware if software to make the hardware I've already got was available.

But as far as I can tell, this isn't how the vendors are looking at things...

Addenda (not that it should be relevant, but hey): my Clie is a NX70V, and my Mac is a G4 tower running OSX 10.2.4. From reading these forums, it seems like there are sync quirks depending on the Clie version, but in my eyes that shouldn't really matter -- if native support were to become available, then it shouldn't make a difference which device you bought as long as it's in the Clie family.

I'm very happy to know it. I got all of the above, can you teach me how to do it?

I just bought me a Clie sl-10, and it syncs to my imac running osx 10.1.5 (?) and palm desktop. I had it installed from when I owned a palm VIIx (may it rest in peace ^_^), and I just hooked up the USB cable and hit hotsync on the clie.

I don't know how to get files onto a memory stick yet ('cause I don't own one), but i hope this helps.
