I was talking to a friend recently about buyinga PDA.

I'ma mac user leaning toward a Clie SJ30.

I was under the impression that to backup/put software programs, etc. on the MS I had to use Missing SYNC software.

But my friend told me that it just helps you MOUNT the stick seperately (i.e. so you can put mp3 and photos and such on it)

but through palm desktop (aslong as my MS is inserted in my clie) i can put software and such on it. Correct? (Or do i have to get a SEPERATE memory reader? ---andif that's true, I guess it comes down to which is cheaper the memory reader or the software, right?)

How do all you Mac'n'Clie people put software and backup your stuff to Memory Stick?

any info is appreciated.

Missing sync is definately the way to go. There is some native apple support in iSync for clies. But how cool is it to be able to use the memory stick with iPhoto and iTunes...

i once had the 625,it synced out of the box, but sometimes i had to unplug the usb cable. With MS installed i never had this problem again. My unsupported 625 and now my NR70v sync better than my old supported palm Vx. I love the itunes/iphoto plugin and i mount my stick on a daily basis

I have been using the sync software which came with my m505 which has always worked fine for me, even to get apps to MS. But for jpg and other non-native Palm files I have to admit to using my Sony digital camera as a kind of card reader to access my MS. From all the posts here I might have to have another look at the Missing Sync and see if it will enhance my Clie experience. But so far the standard Palm software has never given me any problems. The more posts I read here and else where, the more I am beginning to think that maybe I am just one of the few who seems to somehow have got away with using the standard Palm/Mac syncware!

Yes you can do all the usual stuff via Palm desktop without Missing Sync, including loading apps, photo files etc onto memory stick via option in Desktop software.

You do need Missing Sync if you plan to transfer files directly from iPhoto and iTunes which is convenient (but if you're going to use mp3 on an sj30 you need to buy the audio adaptor as well). I'm happy without since I'm still in the jurassic age of OS 8.6 with my Macs and SJ30.

GraphicConvertor can save files in PictureGear format so you don't absolutely need an iPhoto plug-in, it's just convenient to have it.

xDownForNowx,
What do you mean MS on a m515?!
I meant that I am using Palm Desktop (2.63?) that came with my m505 with my Clie 615 and it's been fine. I have to also admit to using my Sony digital camera (like a card reader) to transfere some non-Palm compliant files such as JPG's to my Clie and backing up my MS. Maybe I am using that the way other people use Missing Sync?!
