I just bought a Palm Tungsten E and was happy as a child on christmas eve when it arrived. After just a couple of days use i discovered that there was a strange noise from the speaker. A sound reminding of when you try to tune in a radio station, just before itīs tuned in. It sounded like a soft "squelch" sound that you get on cb-devices. This problem just escalated and when I yesterday tried to play music through the speaker it sounded really bad momentarily. So today I phoned the internet store in Germany and they agreed to send me a boxed new unit. Thank god for warranty ;)
Anyway, anyone else of you who have experienced similar problems or other hardware related problems with your TE-s? By the way, I followed some guys advice on battery charging. Charged the first time for five hours. It works like a charm, except from the broken/faulty speaker ;)

I did not have your problem with the T E, but I had a problem with the digitizer, which was slightly skewed on one part of the screen. It was usable, but a bit irritating. It was a hardware problem. Today I got finally a new one. I wanted a replacement already before Christmas, but customer service of the company from which I bought my first TE was very poor, and it took them ages to give me a refund.

Are you sure the noise is coming from the speaker and not the srcreen? It has been well documented and discussed that the T series screens make noise. I had a T2 and it drove me nuts so I returned it. Many people it doesn't bother.

Hi, I also got one. I returned it and it took two weeks for replacement. The problem now is that the replacement's screen flickers. Is it really like this or should i return it?

Hi all!
-> docjeffman I would probably return the new one as well. I donīt think itīs a normal behaviour that your screen flickers. I pray to god I get non faulty replacement as it comes.
And golfman, yeah Im positive that the sound did not come from the screen. The screen itself makes som kind of low frequent sound, but it wasnīt loud or bothering in my case, the sound I referred to came from the speaker and it was a noice... more like a hiss or perhaps crackle. It wasnīt even regular in itīs behaviour. Thanx for your interesting posts. :)

TIPS!
If your unit was faulty on arrival or is less than 30 days old, PalmOne makes the following statement:
"Solution ID : 2754
My product failed within 30 days of purchase - what can I do?
Customers should return defective products to the point of purchase, requesting a new replacement boxed product. Palm supports its distributors and resellers to allow them to provide replacements in accordance with local consumer legislation.
If you cannot return to the point of purchase Palm will be pleased to handle your repair through our standard repair process. Please note however that any replacement product supplied by Palm, if you choose this option, may be a factory refurbished unit, not a new product. Contact Us"
