View Full Version : T3 Voice Memo Sampling Rate

I'm wondering if the Voice Memo sampling rate can be improved; 8 kHz at 16bits is pretty bad. I'd be happy if we could get it up to 16 kHz (8kHz bandwidth) or more.
With a memory card, there's more than enough time for my purposes. I'd appreciate being able to trade time for quality.
TIA

No, there is not way to change the sampling rate on the T3. To get around this problem, I downloaded Wave Edit Pro (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=52051) You can select up to 8 different sampling rates and save them all to your SD card. It works great and sounds so much better than the default voice recorder.

Thanks Dragwyr! I was surprised to find a sound editing app for the palm! I've tried it and it's very nice but not quite suited to my purposes because it's not really designed as a quick memo recorder; it's overkill for my needs, and I have desktop software to do what it does.
I really like the functionality of the built-in Voice Memo; I just wish it had a "quality" setting. My tests with the WaveEdit software proves that it is possible for the hardware to record at higher rates (though the author reports more noise at higher rates, I don't mind trading some noise for fidelity, and my brief tests prove the results are quite acceptable; noise can be dealt with using pro noise reduction if necessary).
So it's just a question of Palm integrating this option in a future version of Voice Memo. I'll write to them. I just might go for Wave Edit in the meantime.

[b]backhand[\b], I found the same issues as well. Wave Edit is great for higher fidelity sound recording, but for the quick voice memo, it tends to fall short and is a bit cumbersome to get started. It would be nice if Wave Edit had a feature to be enabled and start recording at a pre-defined sampling rate by pressing the voice memo button on the unit.
Perhaps palm will make higher sampling rates an option later on.
