View Full Version : Palm T3 Aluminum Case - Bad Design!!

I don't know if anyone else has bought one of these, but if you are considering it, I would consider this.
The way the Palm is held in the case is by inserting it into the bottom of the case and little clips go in the two holes in the back of the T3. The bottom has a "spring" type mechanism that puts pressure on the T3 pushing it up holding it on the little clips. Here comes the problem, anytime you push the power button or the top of the unit for any reason, the spring pressure is released a little and the unit almost always pushes forward out of the clips. Now the unit is lying loose in the case, turn the case sideways or open it quickly and there goes the T3 to the floor.
I had the Palm hard case for my Vx and loved it, but I have already ordered the Proporta case which appears to be totally different in design. This happens at least twice a day to me so it makes me wonder if anyone at PalmOne even tried one of these out.
I do prefer the fact that the universal connector is covered with the PalmOne case, it isn't on the Proporta one, giving the connector a bit of protection, but it doesn't need protection if the unit is going to bounce on the floor.
Does any one else have any thoughts on this or is it just me?

I bought this case, but before opening it, I read these bad comments ... fortunately I sold it !
And bought an Innopocket one .. opinions about this ? Good enough ?

Ok so what is the case name, or what is the link?
Thanks

It's the Palm case, named "Palm™ Tungsten T3 Hard Case" at http://www.palmone.com/us/products/accessories/casesandcovers/#cases
Is it correct, bjchantry?

The link is correct, the description PalmOne uses is the Palm Tungsten T3 Hard Case, part number P10941U. I don't believe in bashing anyone's products, and this might meet some people's needs, but not mine. In reading the description again, it mentions a secure attachment mechanism, I do feel this statement is a bit misleading. Hope this helps.

Oh that one..
Yeah its not the best thought up case.
I saw the case at Staples, and the design is poor at best.
I did not know you were referring to that one.
I have seen MANY reviews that bash the Palm case.
Good thing there is another one offered with a bit more thought in the design.

I thought about the Innopocket one, but read elsewhere that you can't put it in the cradle, so have to remove the T3 every time (or buy a hotsync cable). A couple of people have complained that this soon causes the neoprene lining to tear. Also read that there's no hole for the reset button, meaning another removal whenever a reset is needed.
So I ordered the Notestation case at:
http://www.notestation.com/tungstent3.htm
Hasn't arrived yet, so I can't give my experience yet, but supposedly will sit in the cradle and has a hole for reset, so I think it has advantages over the Innopocket... (Last time I looked they had free shipping also, so it's quite a bit cheaper too!)

Please let us know when you get it. If you could make a quick review, maybe with some pics, that'd be awesome.
Looks great. I'm surprised they could make it thin enough to fit in the cradle.

That's the PDAir case at notestation. I have that case and it's great. Hotsyncs with no problem with the T3 slider open. It also has a reset hole in the back and thicker neoprene lining than its competition. I haven't had the T3 out of it since the case arrived over a week ago. I have a Proporta case on which the neoprene lining on one side of the slider is gone from taking it in and out all the time to sync.

I have a Palm "Hard Case" as well, and am very disappointed in the quality. I was hoping that I could keep it in my back pocket, and if I happened to forget to pull it out before I sit down my T3 would be protected, but I seriously doubt it would give that kind of protection. Most of it is plastic, including the hinge, and it feels like its going to break apart at any time.
I bought it on a whim because I had a Best Buy gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket. That'll learn me! :)

I just got my proporta case and I must say the first impression is very nice. I also bought the sync n charge USB cable so the problem of taking it out of the case to sync shouldn't be a problem, hopefully. I do wish there was a hole for the reset button, that would have been easy to design in, but since I switched back to Palm from Windows Mobile I no longer reset every day or two, but once a week if that.

You're right, having no quick access to the rest pinhole and not being able to sync with the Innopocket case is a bit of a pain, but aside from that the case is great!
Just wondering (and concerned)... what's a "neoprene"?

Agree 100%! Just received it today (just 2 days after ordering and free shipping from notestation.com) and it's awesome. You can put the T3 in your pocket without worrying about it, and can use your cradle to sync without removing from the case. For $29, I don't believe there's a better case to be had.

Why are they all side openning? I think I would find it difficult to hold onto my T3 with these; a case that flips open lengthwise would be much preferable. Does anyone know of a hardcase that flips forward?

Does the Notestation case allow for IR communication? From the pictures it's not clear whether or not the IR port is blocked by the top of the case.
TIA

Yup, all port, button, and accessory openings are available while the T3 is in the case.

I have never been a big fan of Palm hard cases, as I felt they did not offer enough protection.
