I found this one out by mistake, and finally figured out how to reproduce it - at first I actually thought it was a bug with the Power-To-Go sled.
If you are like me, and you use the T3 in a brightly lit building, and don't want the backlight on all the time, here's an easy way to turn it off. First launch the program you will be using "in the dark." Then use the select button - the button in the middle of the navigator - to open the clock. Don't hit anything, just let the T3 turn itself off. Now use the select button again to turn on the T3 (notice the screen is dark?), and once the clock is displayed, hit select again to choose OK. The T3 stays on, and the back light is off. The backlight will remain off until you change applications.:D
**EDIT--After some more testing, this seems to work only when PXA Clocker is active.

Doesn't work for me.

After looking into it some more, it looks like it only works if you have PXA Clocker installed and active.

Pocket Tunes is the only app that I have found that allows the back light to shut off. So I know that the T3 is capable, now all we need a simple way to access that feature or have it added to an app like "Slide-Free".

Well not my Pocket Tunes... i want to give PXA clocker a try. I know what turning backlight means because I recall having just glimpsed for less than second the contents of the screen without light, what we used to have in TT. I am sure someone will find the clue, unless PalmOne wants to disclose the way to do it, if it is not a problematic tweak

Why not???
When using Pocket Tunes, my T3's backlight shuts off automatically after 10 seconds and periodically flashes the green power light as a reminder that it's off.

I guess it is not your backlight that turns of but the screen itself... ?
yes, the audio players turn the screen off as a whole, not just the backlight

That was a bug in a older version of PXA Clocker I think it was version 3.0. The new 3.1 version fixed the bug.

BLoff merely dims the backlight on my T|T3 to minimum brightness, and doesn't turn it off, unless I am missing something.

See you over on Cliesource then, orol. But my money went for the T|T3 and I have no complaints so far, other than the awkward Graffiti 2. Ugh! I guess it's time to make the switch to Tealscript.
rokiteer: well, I'm quite active over there over 1400 posts and counting :-)
well the thing is I'm palm os fan (4 years with palm os :-), and from time to time I came over, because I can spot some fine utility or program which wasn't mentioned on cliesource
btw. try to copy G1 files over to your T3 (I did the same with UX50, because I hate the G2 and don't want releard G2)

I might try to do that next time I get out to the store and find a working T|T on display.
