This past weekend I upgraded my Clie SJ22 to a Zire 71. It was a brand new item I purchased at BB. I took it home and plugged it into the hotsync/charger cradle for 4 hours. Unfortunately, the Zire does not have a charge light so I couldn't tell if it was charging or not. :( That really should be standard on any Palm! Anyway, the Zire 71 would not come on. I tried plugging the power cable into another elec. outlet that I know is working and charged it another 2 hours. Still it would not come on whether in or out of the cradle. I'm still not sure if it was a bad battery, a bad cradle, a bad power source, or what.
BTW, I was unable to actually hold a Zire 71 in my hand at BB because they keep them in a bracket on a shelf. You can operate them, but not pick one up. I'm telling you this because I learned my lesson here--I should have insisted that they let me hold it. I know they would have. But I didn't. When I got home and unpacked it, I was very disappointed in how it felt in my hand. It was very slippery and had sharp edges. So ALWAYS hold the Palm to see how it feels.
I took it back to BB and upgraded to a Tungsten T2, the last one this store had (or will have).
