View Full Version : Trouble with capital letters in landscape mode

Hi Everyone,
I've noticed some difficulty in generating capital letters when in landscape mode on my T3. I thought capital letters were generated by writing in the space on the silkscreen between the letter and number zones (at least, that's the way one generates capital letters in portrait mode). Any advice? Sorry if I'm just not doing something really simple and stupid.

Any luck in solving this problem? I have the same issue w/my T3.

The only letter I have a problem makings capital consistently in landscape mode is "K". Keeps on coming out as LC (well, half the time). I know the trick of drawing the < of the K through the upright line, but it doesn't work consistently in landscape mode.

I solved this one by changing back to good old Grafitti 1.

Great ... now if there was just a way to do that on a T5 ... anyone have any suggestions?

I have had G1 on my T3 for a very long time. I suspect the procedure is the same for the T5:
You need a Palm with T1 and a copy of a program like Filez or McFile.
1. Copy the 2 database .pdb files (Graffiti_Library.pdb & Graffiti_Library_enUS.pdb) to an SD or MMC card from the G1 Palm.
2.Copy those files onto the target Palm from the card.
-- DO NOT HOTSYNC DIRECT TO THE PALM'S RAM. --
3. Perform a soft reset (simply press the device's reset hole on the back).
All done! As with all programs, the G1 files override those in the Rom!

When in landscape, if you are writing on the screen and not in the DIA then caps is to the right and not below the divider line of the DIA. If you are not getting caps then you need to write more to the right.

CWolf ... I read somewhere that trying that hack to get G1 working on the T5 won't work. It makes you have to do a hard-reset. Can anyone confirm this? I can't recall where I read it ...

Short answer: No, it's impossible for the T|5.
Details: You see that part in capitals about not HotSyncing the G1 files to the target Palm?
That is very important.
Unfortunately, because of the retarded way the T|5 memory system works, you can't actually upload the G1 files to the Internal 'live' RAM because the T|5 only has 16MB of it and it's not user accessible.
When you copy those files to the T|5, they go into the pseudo VFS FlashRAM first and then the software is activated. Unfortunately, like running a program off a VFS card, PalmOS will try to run what ever initialisation code is in the proggy and that's what makes it blow up, because the same code in the G2 libraries has already been executed and the two apparently conflict with each other in fun and interesting ways.
On Palms with standard memory systems, you bypass the init. code by copying the G1 libraries directly into the internal RAM with something like FileZ or McFile (If you copied it to /PALM/Launcher and used the Launcher's Copy mechanism, it'd blow up).
When you reset, the init code of the G1 libraries is run instead of the G2 one, and in fact the G2 libraries are ignored (Stuff in RAM takes precedence over stuff in ROM/Flash).
G1 is another reason I doubt I'll upgrade my Clie, esp. if all their future ones are incompatible with the G1 libraries/Don't have G1 (They won the lawsuit so I don't know why they don't go back to the (IMHO) superior G1, or better yet give an option for both!!).
TealScript is an option - I've heard this works on the T|5 and since it's customisable, you could probably make a pseudo-G1. I just hope they've been actively working on it because last time I tried it, (On an OS4 T665) it was rather slow and buggy...
