View Full Version : Graffiti 1, tealscript or Jot for T3?

I was thinking of buying a T3, but am concerned about the learning curve in dealing with the new graffiti.
I've read on a forum (don't remember which one) that installing Graffiti 1 leaves the T3 a bit...unstable I think was the word the person used. I've also read that tealscript was...I think a bit slow was what was reported.
What are most people using, was the learning curve difficult, and are you satisfied with it?
Thanks.

I'm using Graffiti 2 right now - I like it, personally. The learning curve wasn't all that tough for me, and although I do still check the graffiti reference now and then, I did that with G1 too. =)
I am not in any hurry to add any Graffiti replacements to my wonderful T3, since Graffiti 2 currently fills all my needs.

I'm running G1 and GraffitiAnywhere. No stability problems, and I love it. I find that GA is better than the Write Onscreen function in the T|T3.
I just added CrossingOver, but I have heard that it is less than happy running on a T|T3. I'll report back on how it does.

Here's my 2 cents:
G1: I had the digitizer issues that others reported...went away when I uninstalled. I also didn't like the 'mid-caps' feature not working on the 'classic' VR screen.
Tealscript: The method I currently use...does restore G1 strokes. Does give the ability to personalize (though I don't use). Does give 'write anywhere' functionality. UNFORTUNATELY, the the write anywhere ability is all or nothing - always on or off (there are settings to adjust sensitivity, but I haven't found any that work for me). If you turn off the write anywhere function in Tealscript, you can still turn the T3 functionality on/off on the taskbar, but then it's graffiti2 on the screen, and graffiti1 in the VG area <SIGH!!>.
Jot: Currently does not work on T3 (see support and/or upgrade pages of www.cic.com). I have used "full Jot" in the past (graffiti2 is a scaled down Jot). To me, it's the best of both worlds...graffiti2 advantages (yes, there are some) with the ability to use single strokes for all letters (my biggest complaint with G2)...
Many people love Graffiti Anywhere...it's a good piece of software, but it doesn't work for me.
Hopefully a Tealscript or Jot upgrade will be out soon that gives me what I want...
Guess you need to see what works for you.
Good luck,

I really don't understand the problems with straight copying the most current G1 graffiti files to the T3. (Unlike the big warning not to.) I did this over a month ago, prior to the warning, with no problem... (A good backup was first done, but never needed.) G1 lives on my T3 and I'm a very happy camper!

I am a Palm 5000/ III and M515 user since 1997. Recently bought T5. Should have never done it. I was able to write fast and almost without errors using graffity I. T5 (Graffity 2) is a dissaster. Writing is very difficult if you got used to the old version. Additionally, Palm has SERIOUS problems in synchronizing with Outlook 2003. Several patches made it work for 3 weeks and than you have to re-install all again from scratch.
Their helpdesk is very unsurportive. They aree aware of the prblems and cannot do anything! Time to buy a native office product with easier handwriting recognition.
Interessted if I am the only one with this experience. Hard to believe.....

PALM GRAFFITI ONE INSTALLATION
**WARNING**
DO NOT INSTALL THE INCLUDED FILES DIRECTLY ONTO YOUR PALM! DOING SO WILL RESULT IN YOUR PALM CRASHING, AND YOU WILL BE FORCED TO PERFORM A HARD RESET OF YOUR HANDHELD. READ BELOW FOR INSTRUCTIONS.
How to Install from an SD Card:
1. Disable tealscript or any other Graffiti replacement program on your handheld.
2. Install both files to an expansion card in your handheld. DO NOT INSTALL DIRECTLY ONTO YOUR PALM!
3. Copy Graffiti_Library_enUS.PRC from the card to your handheld using a file management utility such as FileZ (http://nosleepsoftware.sourceforge.net/download.html).
4. Copy Graffiti_Library.PRC from the card to your handheld.
5. Perform a soft reset (simply press the device's reset pin), and enjoy Graffiti 1!
How to Install from a Pocket PC:
1. Install both files to the Pocket PC
2. Beam Graffiti_Library_enUS.PRC to your Palm.
3. Beam Graffiti_Library.PRC to your Palm.
4. Preform a soft reset (simply press the device's reset pin), and enjoy Graffiti 1!
How to Remove:
1. Install a handheld file manager, such as FileZ (http://nosleepsoftware.sourceforge.net/download.html)
2. In Filez, go to the Details form for each database. Change both the name and creator code of each one.
3. Soft reset your device.
4. In Filez, delete the two databases, then soft reset again.
Note: Installing Graffiti 1 on your handheld will remove the ability to write capital letters by writing in the middle of the graffiti area. To restore it, you can use a program such as CrossingOver (http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/crossingover.shtml), which is free.

I also upgraded from the M515 to the T5. Listen carefully....get TealScript ASAP, it is a life saver and, if I may so myself, it is better than Graffiti 1 because strokes can be fine tuned and customized. Although it seems a bit expensive at first, it is well worth it. Try it out for 30 days and I guarantee you that you will purchase it.
No. I don't work for TealPoint Software although I am incredibly impressed with this product.
