I have a SD card that contains some Palm applications, when I buy my T|E, I won't have any access to a computer for two weeks, is there a preinstalled aplication on the ROM that can handle a SD card and transfer files from the card to the RAM?

If its in the Palm/Launcher folder, I believe you can use Palm default application launcher to copy it from SD card to RAM. If not, you might want to load a file manager like Filez (Freeware) or McFile (Shareware) to your SD card and leave it on the default Palm/Launcher/ folder. That way, your new Palm unit can launch the app off the Sd card, and you can juggle your files from there. Note that only files in .PRC and .PDB format can rin RAM.
If you want to transfer your old username to your new unit, you can use the free BackupBuddyVFS to save your old settings then restore on your new unit. Note again, that if your old unit is an OS4 one, it might be better to reinstall all applications with the newest versions that takes advantage of the ARM processor/enhanced sound/Higher resolution screen.
Another thing, if you use higher capacity card, 64MB and above, you might want to get the SDIO software patch that PalmOne has released for the TE:

Since you don't have access to a computer, unless by some miracle FileZ or a similar app is already on the card, you have a problem.
I suggest you go looking for a friend who will either let you use their computer temporarily, or one who already has a Palm who can beam FileZ to your device.

Most apps will run with no problem while being on a SD card... You can copy apps to the handheld by using the "Copy..." item in the default Launcher memory...

do I have to put tthem in a special folder or location of the card? or just in the root directory? (e.g. X:\test.prc)

another question, if I'm traveling and have to do a hard reset and have my data backed up (simply transfered to the SD card) on a SD card, will I then be able to restore it witout a computer? It is a normal 64mb SDcard.
This is an important as I'm traveling a lot and do not have access to computers all the time.

Use BackupBuddyVFS to automate backup and restore from your card. Simply transfering files to and pro won't do. BackupBuddyVFS is Free at bluenomad.com (A more feature packed version is shareware). Be sure to have the equivalent amount of free space on your card before you backup (eg if your internal RAM is nearly full say 30MB, then you need 30MB free on your card, plus maybe a little overhead).
Most of the time, the app goes into the Palm/Launcher folder, that's the folder that Palm recognize. If your program does allows database on the expansion card, you might need to consult the readmes of the software as to where the database is located, but mostly Palm/Launcher will do, most software recognize that folder and will automatically move it to their desired folder.
Be sure to checkout Filez and BackupBuddyVFS. Filez especially, if you don't have a file explorer. Put it on card so you can still access it even after hard reset.

Most of the time, a soft reset will cure 99% of software conflicts. To be safe, try out any new software installed a few time before leaving your computer behind.
