I am a CLIE PEG-SJ22 user......
I have been thinkig of upgrading to either a Zire 71, or a T|E....
Is there anything I should know about the units?
From other CLIE users I have heard that the Zire 71 and T|E stink... but I did not belive them...... But there is still a chance that I might buy another CLIE....

I mainly use my palm for games and keeping track of my homework.... i chose the Z71 and T|E, because I would like to play mp3s on my palm.....

Can anyone help me decide?

THANX :)

I'm a former Clie T615C user that went to the Zire 71.

These are the basic differences between the Zire 71 and T|E:

Zire 71: 144mhz processor, Camera, Less memory (16mb), universal connector, cradle

TungstenE: 126mhz processor, Voice Recording, No Camera, More memory (32mb), no universal connector, no cradle, Docs2Go included

Either way, you will need a memory card for MP3 playing. If you purchase the Zire in the next day, you can get a free 64mb card by mail.

It's really all up to your individual preferences on what unit you would like more, since they are so similar with the minor differences.

Hmmm... I did not know that the T|E had a voice recorder.....
The Zire 71's camara is still an extra even though is not even a megapixel. It is good for those "kodak moments" that we always seem to miss.....

Back to the T|E... As far as I have heard, all of the T| series cases "paint" [if you want to call it that] falls off after a month....
This has been sort of a deciding factor for me since I don't usually buy a case.....;)

Is the T| series paint rumor true?

PS> The T|E's memory is good because I have a player that plays Mp3s and WAVs off of RAM....:)

Sorry, I just went back and checked again, and the E does NOT have a voice recorder - I was accidently looking at the T|2's icons which is right below the E on the palmone site.

My brother has a T|3 and the paint doesn't seem to fall off, he's had his for a month. However he doesn't have a case for it and he has gotten scratches on it from regular pocket use. However, same could be true of the Zire too.

I love the Zire's camera. Everyone tries to downgrade it saying that it is only webcam quality, but sometimes, that's all you need. If I wanted 8x10 pictures of my vacation, I would get a real digital camera. But how many of us carry around a dedicated digital camera with us each day? As you said, it's nice for those kodak moments.

You will find that those 32 mb's will fill up FAST on the T|E...first, that's only about half an hour of songs if you put nothing else on the handheld. Then you have to contend with all the programs and everything else you want to use. With either handheld, count on buying a memory card. My advice: go to www.newegg.com - the cheapest prices i've seen anywhere, usually no tax, and right now there is free shipping too.

I went from a SJ30 to the Z71. I have a 128MB SD Card and I use ZLauncher to keep all my apps on the card so there is no memory problem. As far as paint goes the SJ30 and Z71 would both get scratched easily if they are not in the case. I think the lower priced models are all going in that direction. I had a IIIc which was plastic but it was a solid color plastic, no paint to scratch off.
I don't know why they choose to paint them now.
I do like the camera and now that I have it I would have trouble parting with it. My next one will definitely need that feature. I don't use it much for MP3s but I tried it and the quality seemed OK. I am not an expert in this area.
Good luck with your decision!

Oh ok.... As far as I knew the blue part of the Zire was blue plastic, and the part that seemed metal was actually chromed plastic.......

I know how fast they'll fill up....... I have a 16 meg SJ22 and somethimes I have to go through deleting apps I *never use*..... but im fine with that.......[Maybe] ;)
Yeah I think I will get the Zire 71, since the T|E has no voice recorder...[I have to finish saving up...]

And you should try...www.tigerdirect.com wich is alot like neweeg, but better ;)

Use Zlauncher to move apps to the SD card, and memory space will not be a problem. Go for the Zire 71; it's a great deal at $250.

The main reason I stayed away from the Sony's PDA was because they use proprietarry Memory sticks, which would have been no use to me other than for the Clie. With other PDAs that use more common Secure Digital or Compact Flash cards, I could use them interchangably with other devices that I have.

This may not be a concern for some, but compatiability is important to me.

POS power user,

did you get the Z-71?
If you're still looking, you might consider waiting a little longer, rumor has it that Palm has some new models due out in the next couple weeks. With that in mind, even if you did get one, you still might be able to exchange it for the new models if they are released before your return policy is up. just what ever you do don't throw away the packaging.;)

Good luck:D
