I'm new to the Zlauncher world, and Palm world for that matter. I'm just wondering if there's a way to use any icon for any app. Can you assign icons to anything? If I buy an icon set for Zlauncher, and I want to use the "Memo" app icon on a game application instead, can I do that, or do they only work for the "Memo" app.

Thanks for any help.

There are two approaches you can take to change your icons if you are using ZLauncher on your Palm.

1. Use a program such as App Icon (http://member.nifty.ne.jp/mmaeda/e/palmos.html) to assign any icon you want to each application. This changes the underlying icon so you should see that icon wherever.

2. Use ZLauncher Iconset Factory (http://palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&sid=AE3554FE-0024-45B2-96D11BC473A62D55&prodID=52897) to create ZLauncher icon sets. The advantage to this approach is that ZLauncher icons do not modify the underlying programs and you can easily change the icons. It is just one selection to change every icon on your Palm to another set. You will only see the iconsets, thought, when using ZLauncher.

Personally, I prefer the second approach. ZLauncher Iconset Factory is only $5 to download at PalmGear and is really easy to use. All of the editing can be done on the PC and then the program will compile the icons for you.

As an aside, I would not pay for either ZLauncher themes or iconsets. Look around at ClieSource and elsewhere. Most of the themes you see on pay sites, like PalmGear, you can find for free and in higher qualtity elsewhere. The only themes that are original and worth paying for that I have found are at ZLThemes (http://zlthemes.com/).

Hope this helps.

Hey, just realized my options are a little less because I'm using a Mac, so that ZL Iconset Factory won't work. All well. I'll try that other one out.

App Icon works really well. I don't remember the site, but you can find it via Google. Lesliefranke has created some great icon sets. There are some great icon sites available for App Icon - let me know and I will look up the address.

Note - don't try to edit icons using AppIcon on a Hi Res machine or it resets.

Hope this helps...

Yeah, I've been playing around a little with App Icon, and it works well, except the changed icons don't show up in Zlauncher. There might be a way to make it work, but I haven't figured it out yet.

curvemode,

at first I had the same problem... after assigning the icons, you need to "refresh apps" either with the icon in top or bottom bar or via menu choice.

this should be all that you need to do... the assigned icons will be there.

a note - you cannot apply overlays to ROM based apps (datebook, etc) using AppIcon.

If you want to do something like that, you will have to use a ZLauncher icon set, such as the ones that are included in the download file... you may also want to check out lesliefranke's themes as some of them include icon sets made with ZLIF and they are the best icons that I have seen!

Hope this helps...

Ah, I knew there must be something like that. Zlauncher's one great program. Yeah, I'll have to get those lesliefranke themes and icons.

Thanks
