Hi:

I would be very grateful for input from you guys with "experience" ....

I am seriously tempted to purchase the Treo 600 - I have been going to the local Palm store and playing with them! They have them in stock and I can take one home tonight - however - I am wondering about accessing the Internet with one of these.

I apologize up front if this sounds stupid ....

Can you go on any website out there? Or only the sites designed for use with handhelds? Does it depend on your carrier? Could I go onto my bank's website to check my balances? Mapquest to get directions? Does anyone have experience with Sprint in the SF Bay Area?

I have a UX 40 which is a super little handheld - this 600 however is just about too good to to say no to!

Thanks so much for any input!

Diana

You have to inquire first if your Mobile Network Operator has the added service of internet browsing on a per kilobyte usage. Here in the Phillippines we have Mobile Network Operator who caters such services. any Yes you can access your bank account though the web if the bank has the mobile version of their web page. I've already done this here in my country

With Sprint it browses great- Of course smaller sites/WAP sites are still best- And always the preferred way to surf on a small device.

Regular sites will load on the Treo 600, however. The largest (in terms of graphics) are too much for the browser, which will stop before it finishes loading the page. But the Treo 600 is awesome for browsing while away from a computer-

Since you mentioned MapQuest - www.mapquest.com/pda/main.adp

Will probably NOT be able to browse your bank site, but YMMV...

Why wouldn't she be able to browse her bank's website? It shouldn't be a problem just because its a secured site. I was able to make a secure purchase on a website using my Tungsten C with no problems. But based on my experience with the T|C, you might want to ask Palm if the browser in the Treo handles pop-up windows. The login window of my bank's website is a pop-up, and this is the only thing stopping me from checking my account balances as far as I know.

Actually I can get password pop-ups on my Treo 600 - For example my employer's Outlook Web Access site presents a domain name/user name/password pop-up, and the Treo correctly provide a method to input that information-

The problem with the OWA site is that it is just too big to view on a 160x160 screen - the icons on the left take up nearly the entire screen.

And my point is that a bank site would likely be too large for the tiny screen as well. It will work, but scrolling around on the screen may be more trouble than it is worth...
