thanks edlin, will give it a try though when I setup the board with only two pieces and did a feel moves it came back and said 'check' which was hard to do with just a rook and knight I would think on the board.
also I installed the prc file but saw a zillion other files in the zip I downloaded.
guess so long as it allows me to do the newspaper chess problems it will be great and I will just ignore anything the game tells me (unless of course it says I've won when I know I didnt')
