I have tried every possible combo and can not get my nx70 to do a hot sync via the lan. I can get email and web browse.
Set up: Linksys wrt54G Router with a netgear switch.
It goes through the motions but gets to the sync icons and times out.
network
LanSync
!!
my IP
my mask
Connect to: LAN
via: cradle/cable
I've opened forwarding on my router and tried all settings.
Hotsync is set to accept usb and Network
Not that this matters, but I am an IT manager for a 24 hour news channel. I run a pretty stout network with Cisco switches and about 300 PCs and servers, VPN, etc. I feel my networking skills are pretty solid.
Any suggestions or settings I may be overlooking?
Additionally, PalmVNC and Win-Hand will not connect/work either. There is one piece of the puzzle I am missing!
Thanks in advance

I. have't done a sync like this, but wonder if "VIA" should be set for modem.

What about Windows security setups? Maybe Primary PC won't allow connection ?

The 54G does not work with the WL100! I had it, tried it, returned it, got a Netgear, and was up and running in minutes.
You set up everything right, don't worry about that. Go and pick up the ultra-affordable Netgear MR814 (4-port 11b router for only $80 at most places) -- it's a quality piece.

Okay -still no go
Using: Clie NX70V/U, SONY WL100 CARD, NETGEAR MR814.
I dug up my receipt and went to Best Buy (their service is terrible!) I took a hit on unboxed goods of 20% restocking and turned in my Linksys router and laptop card. In return I got the Netgear MR814 as suggested. Got it up and running pretty quickly. Can get email and Web, but still can not hotsync via LAN connection and apps like (PalmVNC and Win-Hand) will not work!
Any other suggestions?
Modem Sync Pref: Network
LANSync Prefs: LANSync
Primary PC setup:
!!
used both my private and public IP addys (can get it to work both ways with router)
netmask
Connection setup:
called it: charlies
connect to: Local Network
Via: Cradle/Cable
When I hot sync, it initializes and then goes to the hotsync screen (all greyed out) and then times out.
Hotsync is set to accept: Local USB and Network.
Error: The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again.
What can I be missing/doing wrong? Thanks for the earlier input!

Does it pass initialization and actually get a connection? If so, you should be able to view your connection log and see your assigned IP, gateway, and DNS servers. Ensure you have values for these.
Also, disable any local firewall software you have running on your PC -for me, Black Ice was denying my CLIE connections and making HotSycn fail "inexplicably".

No firewal stuff. No it doesn't connect, there is nothing in the log. The connection says connecting...connected and then the greyout screen comes up with the hotsync icons and then times out

On your desktop PC, look at the HotSync manager Icon in the system tray. Right click on it and select setup and then network, TCP/IP settings and use that IP and Subnet mask in the primary PC setup on your Clie.
If yo have Windows XP and firewall enabled, disable it for now. The firewall will block a hotsync until it's setup properly.
In the HotSync app itself, select modem and leave it there, you still can HotSync via the cradle without changing back. Under the HotSYnc Icon in the middle of the app, it should be Wireless LAN, where it says enter phone number, don't!
By tapping on the center Icon in HotSync, you can sync via wireless while in the cradle.

Actually with the MR814, set it for DHCP and set you Clie setup in advanced to auto IP and DNS with powersaveon unchecked.
Infrastructure mode is what you need to use.

If you can get email and internet, you are very close to a HotSync and it should work.

The IP in the primary PC setup has to match the PC's IP in the HotSync manager.
I can HotSync with various PC's just by changing the IP address in my Clie under primary PC setup.
