Hello,

I don't mean to bring this issue up again, but now that it's all blown over and everybody is happy again, how do you feel Palm handled the SD card issue?

Do you feel it was satisfactory? Did tech support give you problems? Were you frustrated at the lack of information?

I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks

As best they could in the face of things, I'd say.

Companies like PalmOne are loathe to admit when a "flagship" product ships with such glaring errors. They acknowledged the issue pretty early on and then took steps to correct it.

Not the best situation in their history, but by far, not the worst. ;)

they never admitted on their support site that there even was an issue which is more what i wasnt thrilled about.

Since I waited until the day the patch was introduced to buy my T3, it’s a non-issue. No problems with a 256 Meg Sandisk card. Reminds me of the glory days when the TRGPro and service was king. Despite Palm's reluctance to admit there was a problem, Sony could learn a lot from this…

Kudos to Palm for fixing the problem.

However, I was a semi-vocal critic of theirs for not acknowledging the problem. The only acknowledgement I ever saw was through a third party. What I wanted was an acknowledgement on a web page whose URL started with www.palmone.com.

My wife, upon seeing my T3 for the first time, went out and bought one the same day. She is not the geek/addict that I am. She's probably a much more typical buyer. If not for me, how would she have known to do a ROM update?

Well when you consider who Palm is directly competing with the answer would have to be a big, YES.
Lets be real if this would happened with a Sony you would be waiting for the patch until ....
Hmmm... unit they released the next version, or model.
There idea of a patch is selling you a new unit with the fix already installed.
I guess maybe they think this way the customer won't mess up the installation of it.
Well that's worth a couple of hundred $$$ isn't it?

The product is nice, or should I say different.
I have been a Palm user for many years, and then I switched over to Sony fro about 2 years because of the different style or feature of their PDA's.
They offer a much better multimedia product wrapped up in a PDA.
BUT they treat their customers like crap.
And worst more is the way they treat the programmers.
They make it so hard on the programers that they basically give up on some really neat projects.
Now Palm or the PDA world always promoted the advancement of the programmer's and development by 3rd parties companies because it made the PDA product much more appealing in getting new apps, and the possibilities.
I personally when considering a computer, would not purchase a Dell, or Gateway, because I want to be able to expand my possibilities as future apps, hardware, etc. are conceived.
But I do know that the market is big for proprietary products because not every one likes to take electronic equipment apart just to see what makes it tick...
I think Sony is abusive and could treat there customer, programmers a little better.
I mean compare the prices Sony is about 1 - 2 hundred $$$ more then the Palm line of PDA's.
I remember the awful pain when everyone wanted to use the CF slot that comes on a few Clies but Sony would not release the drivers until someone broke and created their own that they sold the Clie customers..
Then all of a sudden Sony had a driver..
Really now.
Dont sell a unit with a CF slot unless you are willing to offer it with full accessibility.
Well this is my opinion and I guess time will tell.
