AFAIK, AAC is not an option at the moment although AAC support in Pocketunes has been requested I think....

I'm sure there would be many users who would gladly pay a fee to cover any licensing costs. I know I would!

Same here.
Something like so:
Pocket Tunes : $12.95
Pocket Tunes Dlx : $24.95
Pocket Tunes AAC : $34.95
With the AAC version being Deluxe with AAC capability. The basis? If you are going to have AAC you are going to want the other features because you are using AAC over MP3 because you are a computer-enough person to know the benefits. Even iTunes (Win+Mac) defaults to MP3.

I was doing some A/B testing with AAC today. I encoded America's "Sandman" at 128Kbps LC AAC using Nero 6, and the same using iTunes. The Nero MP4 file in Nero Media Player sounded incredible! The iTunes M4A file sounded very good as well, but it was no contest. Apparently the encoder in Nero has some extra "goodness" in it (something called Spectral Band Replication), and iTunes is not able to reproduce it.
