I didn't use the silkscreen email and photo buttons and missed having the good ol' calculator handy on a button, but I did not want it on one of the hard buttons.
I like the [memo] hard button to be Daynotez on my T3 but I also like the other three default apps that you normally access via the 4 buttons around the Dpad. I do not need email or photos to be accessed via the virtual buttons in the silkscreen area of the screen. Maybe it is old info to a lot of you but I found that silkscreen buttons can also be reassigned! I like being able to reset the virtual silkscreen buttons as well as the actual buttons.
My right two silkscreen buttons are now set to [Memo] and [Calc].

I too think that mail and pictures are silly on the silk screen.
So...
How did you change the silk screen buttons on the T3?

Press the silkscreen button you want to change for a few seconds. A menu will popup with a list of your applications and a few standard Palm functions (Home, Menu, Find, ...). Select the one you want and that's it. The icon on the silkscreen will change to match the application.

Has anyone found that the calc icon no longer works like it did in the past???
I have a app called HBX it allows one to assign up to 4 applications to each hard button, and up to 4 app's to the calc icon.
Well since Palm came out with this T3 and the calc icon is now changeable the calc icon (when chosen) wont call up HBX any longer.
Anyone else notice this or care???
I think this is also effected in the other button manager apps that offer you to change or app apps to the calc icon to.
Anyone else notice this???
Thanks

Palm's documentation for the T3's functions really stinks.

Actually, if you look, you'll find several neat little guided video tours of the T3 right there on the Palm site. They give a good overview without talking down to you. This is where I learned about the silkscreen capabilities talked about here.
Perhaps you should actually look at the documentation before claiming it stinks.

There are some more features:
If you push and hold the home button in the status bar a list with the recently used apps appears.
If you push and hold the arrow button in the status bar you can pick the kind of silk screen you prefer.

if you want a dedicated button for your HBX calc, just assign one of the DIA buttons to that specific app instead of "calc"
palm already put the magic of assiging different apps to the calc button right in the OS. there's no need to use the hacks anymore.
hope that helps

Yep. It also affects apps like SlideFree and ZLauncher than can trigger the Silk-Calc function...all it will launch now is HotSync...Kind of a pain for one-handed & closed operation.
