Hi Everyone :)

I noticed there weren't much attention being paid to a really great new Atari ST emulator called CaSTaway (http://www.codejedi.com/shadowplan/castaway.html). It works really well (for the devices it supports, such as NX, UX) and it's free ! :)

There are also tons of games for the Atari ST that looks fantastic :) ... you can see screenshots of some of the better games here (http://members.fortunecity.com/atariste/pages/games1.html).

Here are other related sites that you might find useful:

Maybe I am missing it, but where do you get the actual games and not just screen shot.

Just do a search on Google and you should be able to find many sites where you can download the games.

Take a look at the following forum for list of sites:

Yeah, I was aware of that :) ... what I meant to say was that not many people were actually interested in it despite the two news articles :) ... maybe there aren't many visitors here who were from the Atari generation ? :D

Me, I'm a happy camper, having downloaded several hundred Atari ST games last night :) ... I'm just waiting for the Clie gamepad support :)

Should I do a follow up? Its actually quite stable and usable (always has been), but I continue to grow it. So although its release quality now, it will get better :) I didn't want to spam the news sites, so I didnt' follow up..

But I can submit a more recent update if you'd like :)

I think you need to provide more info :P PRoblems getting the disk images, or getting them to the device, or running them or what?

I'm still trying to get the games to run. I've gotten the disk image, and loaded the program. I can get the blank.st file to run ok, but apparently, some of the games I've downloaded are not going to load. I just keep having to try a new one.

I just got ChessMaster to run. Now I'm having difficulty getting the cursor to work properly. And I can't get out of the program! The exit button isn't working. Had to soft reset to get the program to close.

Running on a T3 with no hacks, keyboard not active.

Vidge,

To exit the program tap the home button twice. The firt puses the emulator the second closes it down.

For the cursor to work, i found it easier to click in the bottom right of the screen to centralize it. Then to 'click', i tap the screen 2 or 3 times. It does seem to be a hit n miss affair but is useable at times.

I tend to go for the games where I can use a joystick and therefore the 5 way nav on my T3.

I love this emulator and have converted many of my games from my still active ST to my PDA and play them on the train/bus on my way to work........

No.. the Treo 600 is a low res device at 160x106, while the ST lowest res was 320x200, so we'd have to through out about 50% of the pixels to make it fit, and that sort of thing looks truly awful. I can perhaps look into it :/

Hey skeezix,

is the Zire 71 also supported and could I tansfer the standard Atari ST emulation disk image format .st to the SD card and use the games that way or do I have to convert them first ?

I know some of the chess games are a little troublesome.. I tried Battlechess, and it works okay, but it does a lot of pure math, and the math emulation is slow work, so its not worth waiting 5 minutes beween moves :)

You exit by hitting thr home icon twice; once to stop the emu and another to go to the launcher. It ignores more signals from the OS since they slow up the emulation, so hitting the home silkscreen or status bar button etc get you out.

Not all games work perfectly, though most do. You could try SimCity perhaps to get an easy one, or Xenon 2 or other known good thing. Check the thread on my message boards for a list of good working games from people.

I'm sorry to say that the Zire 71 isn't beefy enough to run the ST emu; I'll have to hack out some more things to reduce it to work on that unit, but not sure if/when I'll do it or if it'll work. That unit was just not designed for this sort of abuse :)

Your loss ;)

What does "none of the games load" mean? You insert them into floppy drive A:, hit "go" and nothing happens? What unit do you have? What exactly is going on?
