View Full Version : Any Panasonic SD suppliers in the UK?
I'm trying to track down a supplier of Panasonic SD cards (256M) in the UK. I've found one using Google which is selling at £154 - a rip off comparing with other SD brands and suppliers that sell 256M around £60-70.
I would go for Lexar but it appears Lexar can be either Panasonic or Sandisk - can someone confirm whether they can be either? As I don't want Sandisk.
I've looked at Kingston but seen that someone on the forum was having problems with their Kingston 256M
So that leaves me trying to track down 256M Panasonic. If someone would be kind enough to let me know of a URL where it can be ordered on line in the UK for £60-£70 it would be appreciated.

Why dont you want a SanDisk???
All the SD problems have been addressed with the Palm patch.
In fact the SD problem was really not a SanDisk problem but a Palm issue...
To bad this problem blemished SanDisk like it has.
They have always put out a good product for a reasonable price...
Palm owes them a a public statement to clear them of this SD mess...

Two reasons I suppose ... history ... even though as you say the problem's fixed ... but the 2nd point is speed of access. From what I can understand of posts the Panasonic SD's seem to be one of the quickest cards for read/write.
Even that point may be a non-event because I'm currently using Memory Sticks with my Clie which are supposedly much slower than SD cards, so I may be well impressed with any SD cards .... just prefer the Panasonic .... if someone can help with a UK source!
Thanks

Yes, I also won't recommend buying a Sandisk card at the moment. It's true that the problem seems to be solved, but when it was not, the most problems came with the Sandisks. Furthermore, the Panasonic cards have a better performance.
I don't know a shop in the UK, but I bought my Panasonic cards from Brando for 100 USD.

That's an excellent idea ... thanks. Completely forgot about Brando. Ordered my screen protector from them for the Clie 20 months ago without any problems and $100 is an excellent price when converted to Sterling.
Thanks!

I just bought a Simpletech 256MB from Amazon for $75, with a $10 mail in rebate (for a total of $65 shipped in the US). CardInfo reports the card is a Panasonic.
I don't see Simpletech on the Amazon.uk.co site though.

Hi Jeff,
I would say that Sandisk cards were considered dodgy well before the T3 fiasco.....they are notorious for poor VFSmark performance as evidenced by many old T|T threads at Brighthand and elsewhere...
s
checkout mymemory (http://www.mymemory.uk.com/)
I bought a lexar from them and it was Panasonic. If you ask Karl at mymemory he will tell you whethjer they are Sandisk or the real thing...

Well The volume of SanDisk's out there are alot greater then any other card manufacture.
Other then the "Palm" SD fiasco they appear to me to be pretty stable.
Now I have seen a few threads that say a negative word about them (other then the Palm Sd issue) but really is there any manufacture that never get any complaints???
I think price, (which is lower) and the fact that they are in their ball park in reference to speed, aren't they???
I guess my question is do you visually notice a difference???
And since the Palm SD issues have been addressed I dont see anyone hammering this brand anymore...
I have had a SanDisk in the past and have not really had issues to speak of.
I want to go out and get a 256 MB and well I was leaning towards a Panasonic at first before the patch was released and now since the dust has settled well I need reasons that are not predigest to the PAlm issue to sway me from SanDisk...
They warranty there product against defect for what 5 years?
And as I opened with the volume of their cards out there, there doesn't seem to be alot of negative chatter...
Any input, anyone???

Real thing???
Lexar doesn't manufacture a card.
They purchase form 1 of 3 manufactures and repackage their brand name on them...
What do you mean?
Thanks, have a nice day

Yeah, I know they dont make their own, what I meant was that the card I bought was a rebranded Panasonic rather than a Sandisk....sorry for the confusion.....additionally, Karl at MyMemory checked for me before sending it out, which is good service I think...

Yes it is rare to get service like that anywhere.
I live in the states so from what I saw he does not offer product to the US.
I can get the cards very easily here but customer support like that should be supported by a customer base.
I know I have asked questions similar to this of venders in the past, and I have gotten an answer like it is whatever it is, PERIOD...
NICE!

Definitely agree. Although I'd already ordered from Brando before seeing the post on this UK supplier. But if I ever need another Panasonic (Lexar) card I know where to go!
Thanks
