View Full Version : eBook Function Question
I have a question how do you know where you last left off or does it save that when you exit? I certainly can't wait til i get my T|E so I can reread War and Peace or Fountainhead. Only problem is that they both are 3mb in size :( . Also what format do they need to be in?
For Palm Reader, it will start at the same page you last read.
But you could also use bookmark feature which I thinks most reader have it.

As ktp said, Palm Reader remembers where you where last time you opened that eBook. It has two files stored in RAM, even if the eBook is on a card, that store bookmarks, notes, last position, DRM data, etc. They end in Kx and Ex. From what I can tell the Ex file has notes, etc and the Kx file is probably bookmarks and DRM.
The eBooks can be read by about any reader in Palm Doc format, but that will only work for copyright free eBooks for the most part. For copyrighted works you will need to buy a version for the particular reader you have. Palm Digital Media (http://www.palmdigitalmedia.com) and Fictionwise (http://www.fictionwise.com) have secure eBooks in the Palm Reader format.

Every book reader software I have used so far remebers where you left off. Very few dont have a book mark function as well. (I mostly use bookmarks when changing books before finnishing one.)

I use Palmreader Pro myself. However I must admit that a couple times it has forgotten. Not often. And I forget the specifics.
I do know that PR Pro leaves a file for each book opened to house the bookmark data. (Anyone else have trouble with too many of these being left behind?)

Well, the Ex and Kx files are typically small. The Kx file is typically 85b and the Ex files are <1k to >10k for the most part. If you read a lot of eBooks they can pile up.
I just use fileZ to filter for files ending in Ex and Kx and clean them out when I am done with an eBook.
Ok, cool. I was gonna say no way in heck am I going to reread war and peace with out the save my place thing.

(Anyone else have trouble with too many of these being left behind?) Yup. I just go through periodically, say, after I finish a couple books and delete them. They're not that big, but if you have 10 or 20 'leftovers' then . . .

Found out that TiBR will delete these extra files (bookmarks/place holders) by going to menu --> compact history info or /h - yay !
