I had Quickoffice on my HandEra but was unimpressed so I bought WordSmith. Then I got DTG with my TC. Now I use that most.
Which office/word processor do you prefer?

I'm not a big user of DTG, but my use has increased since I started an evening class.
Now I take notes in class, type them up after either on PC or with Palm keyboard, which helps me revise the notes, and then I can carry my class notes with me wherever I go. We've had a test at the beginning of each of the last two classes and I got 10/10 in both.
Now the other ladies in the class are asking about my Tungsten: where should they get one, how easy is it to get the notes across. After last night's class at least three of them were off to the shops to check out PDAs!

I have been using DTG on my TC for my accounting class. It is easier to do spreadhseet work with a spreadsheet than on paper. ;)

I own all three (bought QuickOffice and Wordsmith, Docs 2 Go came with my T3).
I use Docs 2 Go most of the time (It comes in ROM, so why not?), but I recently installed WordSmith for the Memo Pad and Spell Check if I ever want either of them.

That is why I started using DTG, but I really like the way it handles files and it does some things WS can't. But until DTG6, WS was the one with the spell check. I am debating going to DTG6 because it has so many features that would really make me question the need for WS at all.

DTG. It was free with my Clie.

With my T3 too ;)
I started using Quicksheet eons ago, then added Wordsmith. I switched to DTG mainly because it comes in ROM on my T3 and has the rep of being the most compatible office app (including Microsloth's offerings) on any type of PDA. The only thing I miss about Wordsmith is its ability to double as an enhanced Memo Pad.

I wish my clie came with docs2go.. it came with piscel viewer which is okayish for native files.
Used trail versions of docs2go & wordsmith, and prefer docs2go. Should try quickoffice before I buy anything I guess, but at the mo` docs2go would be my choice.

My vote would probably be for DocsToGo if it had come bundled with my Zire71. :D
However, I'm a Wordsmith user. I figured that since I would hardly ever use the non-Word functions of DocsToGo, Wordsmith would suit my purposes better.

This is a good point. QuickOffice and DTG are close competitors because both duplicate the functions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. But WordSmith only does Word. However, it does it so well, that it is worth looking at if your primary use is Word documents.
Edlin, I haven't tried QuickOffice since version 5 because I didn't like how it worked on my HandEra compared to WordSmith. I have been thinking of trying it out, however, since it seems comparable to DTG6 now.

From WordSmith to DocsToGo
For two years I was a pure WordSmith user, even after I got a clie that came with DocsToGo. WordSmith is snappier, and has some features that still keep it on my device. These are the things that keep WordSmith alive on my device.
Enhanced MemoPad. WordSmiths enhanced MemoPad is a major step up from the built in. Not only formatting but enlarged and multiple clipboard. Though as far as the clipboard goes I would prefer that WordSmith would leave an option to use the standard clipboard so that it could work with other enhanced global clipboards. MultiClip hack under OS4 is the only one I know of that works in both WordSmith and iSilo, the two apps that I use for all of my reference work on the device.
Find-Replace with bookmark option in replace. i.e. place a bookmark at every occurance of "chapter."
Reflow formatting. This is great for documents with hard line breaks i.e. acrobat files pasted into Word. By selecting all and reflow WordSmith will automatically clean up all the hard line breaks. I wish Word could handle this issue with as much ease.
Now I primarily use DocsToGo for building Word documents on my device. These are the reasons DocsToGo pulled ahead of WordSmith on my T3.
Native Files. Now I can convert any document to a native file format directly on my device and upload it to any remote computer. I no longer have upload my files strictly to a computer with Palm Desktop and a file converter installed. This was no small step forward.
Word and Excell Files Not only do I now have both formats on my device DocsToGo has an easier Excell interface than Excel does.
Bulleted-Numbered Lists. Unlike WordSmith DocsToGo can display functioning bulleted and numbered lists on your device. Supposedly WordSmith can handle the formatting, but it does not support the viewing of the formatting. In two years I attempted to use this feature in WordSmith one time. In DocsToGo I am using bulleted and numbered lists all of the time.
With DocsToGo on my T3, I only use SheetToGo for spreadsheet work. For Memo, Wordsmith is my choice.

Kennyd, you make some very good points about DTG and Wordsmith. I've been a Wordsmith user since the first version and still use it to take notes. However, DTG in it's current form has a lot going for it that I would definitely find useful, especially when I (finally) start classes toward my degree. Another reason I like DTG is that it is somewhat ubiquitous (or as much as any app can be) in the PalmOS world, so I can share those docs with just about anyone. With WordSmith docs, this isn't always the case. I have found that I can copy the contents of my WS docs in to W2G with minimal loss of formatting, however. This is a good thing.
So I guess I'm a bit torn between the two.
I've hit my limitations on spread sheets and hope DTG can make a fully functional spreadsheet soon.

I have all 3, having purchased QuickOffice way back when, and then I got Wordsmith. I got DTG bundled on my T2 and now in ROM on my T3. I rarely use DTG, only because I have used the others so long. I use Wordsmith primarily to enhance my memo pad. When I have long notes to take, I tend to use QO. Most of my spreadsheets are done on the computer first, so they are native files. (I actually use Quattro Pro, then convert them to Excel.) I usually open these with QO. Same thing with PowerPoint files.
QO doesn't allow you to edit and save native file format files, so I usually set up the synchronize thing for those. Does DTG allow editing *and* saving of native files? If so, I need to check that out.
BTW - it is good to hear that some of you are using these things in class to take notes. The students I teach haven't yet discovered them (and I teach at a local university :()

Which is my preference?
We live in a word.doc world, unfortunately. I don't like Word to try to think for me. I don't like the way it reformats the last paragraph in a document when I backspace from the end of file. I don't like the way it multiplies file sizes.
I've been trying the 30 day demo of Premium on my OS X/2000 machines. The OS X side (Office v.X on a 10.2.8 system) has been a poor experience. I've had a number of errors:
• Unexpected EOF warnings when trying to add Word files
• Corrupted and missing files
• Missing images
• Hotsync has become a nightmare as DTG enters the sequence
Regarding DTG on my m500:
• Don't really like the cluttered interface, or commands like slash-s for select all.
• Application runs s-l-o-w.
• No PPT native files on the Mac side.
I keep going back to Wordsmith to do real work with reliable files. For me, the 'benefits' of native files border on 'because you can'. It's neat, but am I really using native files to any benefit? Will I ever really beam someone else using a PDA one of my files?
If only Blue Nomad would get some decent table support.

Yes, you can edit Word and Excel documents in native format with DTG 6. You can't always do all elements of the document such as images but text can be changed fine. I tried it out but I am not ready to upgrade now.
