I have seen a lot of messages going around about the different backup programs for backing up to an SD card, and about compatibility, but what about to the PC?

I am using BackupBuddy, and it seems to work quite well, including a couple of restores after a hard reset or two.

Is there something that I don't realize that I need to worry about?

Thanks,

Backkup buddy works 100% well with windows n you can confidently restore all your data after a hard reset on yr palm. You might still ( for some programs) need to rekey in the serial nos. But restoration thro' backup on the card , its restoration is not full ( quite erratic)

What version of BB do you have on your desktop, as well as on your T3?
I was a old BB user years ago, before I purchased a OS5.
Then I moved over to BackUpMan since they offered the most for units with OS5 on them.
I cant seem to remember if BB has the automatic schedule backup feature available with it.
Can you advise?
Thanks

Hi,
recent versions are:
BackupBuddy v1.51 (Windows)
BackupBuddyVFS v2.02

BBVFS although older, has made the largest backup at my T3.
I mean it safes the most files of all Backup progs i´ve been tested. I havn´t restored so i´m not sure if it works.
BBVFS has a schedule and encrypt option.

BBVFS and BackupMan v1.4 are having problems with the Agenda/DIA switcher 'F3T3AgendaBG'.
BackupMan interrupts the backup and saves nothing! where BBVFS asked to cancel/continue/ignore all faults.
So i use BB and BBVFS at the moment.

I forgot to mention that if you select to backup your rom files, it'll hang the T3. So I disable this option. If anytime you'd need to restore, I suppose a hrd reset would have restore all your rom files, so this feature is not much of use unless you have installed data onto the rom. As far as I know, no sofware yet available for the T3. Earlier palms you can use Jacksprat

Does the BackupBuddyVFS able to backup/restore new PIM extra field (website, birthday) after hard reset?

The latest version of BackupBuddyVFS is 2.04, a beta version that registered users will receive upon request.

This version works fine with all OS5 devices and has restored my T3 without problems after a hard reset or two.
Every night, it backups my T3 to an SD-card, without any complaints...

Since it backups all files of the device, there should be no problem with the PIM extra fields...
I don't use them because Agendus doesn't support them yet...

That's is the main problem, 'it backups all files of the device' :o

If the backup app backup old and new PIM database, the new extra field (web site/birthday) will not able to restore after hard reset.

Did you try it already?

I thought the new fields are stored in separate databases (e.g. ContactsDB-PAdd) and thus correctly restored after a hard reset...

Yes, it's under separate database but both link together. If backup both, you will get trouble. The old database is allow new database to be recongnise by desktop.

I am VERY sure Backupman can backup/restore all my data perfectly, so tentatively I do not think other type of backup apps.

I use BBFVS beta for OS5 and have had to selectively restore the new PIM databases as I have been trying out different things. (Have not had to do a complete restore.) I have not had any problems with all the fields in the new PIMs not being restored properly.

Funny I received an answer from Blue Nomad that BB VFS is not certified with OS5...
Use it at your own risk.
Strange and yo are all saying that it works?!?!?!????!!

I should have added that I am a old registered user of BB VFS and desktop.
But since I am a old registered user from the old OS4 days, I wonder why they have not sent any email announcements to me.
Since switching over to a OS5 unit I have become a BackUpMan user.
Can someone please advise me if BB VFS has a schedule backup feature.
I don't seem to be able to remember if they did or not.
Since I forget to back the units up often I need program that I can set to automatically backup on its own.
BackUpMan does but since purchasing this T3 I get the well known bad sector errors when scheduled backup happens.
Funny not when I backup manually though.
Well I have already beat that issue to its death.
Thanks

n0m0n,

BackupBuddyVFS with OS5-support (version 2.04) is still in beta. As you said, use at your own risk.
But it works fine with my T3.

And yes, as I've said before, it has a scheduled backup feature. My T3 backs up its data every morning at 4 am, a time when I normally don't use it... :o
