Have you seen the new HP 4155? Brighthand's review is here (http://brighthand.com/article/ipaq_h4155_review).I don't want to be lured into the dark side, but you can't say it isn't interesting at least...

that's true.
cool one, but 320x480 screen and PalmOS instead Windows would make it much cooler ;)

It still has a slightly smaller LCD at 3.5 in. compared to my T3 LCD at 3.8 in. Plus it still has the 240 x 320 resolution that Microsoft refuses to increase. Plus it still has that crappy Microsoft OS that isn't very user friendly nor does it have nearly as many applications available for it. Form factor is nice though, especially the dual 802.11b and Bluetooth wireless capabilities.

Yeah, res and OS are turnoffs definitely, but aside from that it has exactly what I'm looking for in a handheld; lots of user available RAM, good multimedia, tablet mode and integrated wifi....
DAMN!

Has anybody heard of the Toshiba E800 series?I think I read somewhere at www.geek.com that they've got 640x480 hi res screen

I've just finished toying around with a friends Dell and I have to say that although the resolution is supposedly lower I still think that the screen is bigger and shows more stuff/text onscreen than my TE does.

And I now regret having bought a TE to be honest...

Yes, but that only applies to the bigger Ipaqs and Dell PPCs. This new 4 series has the same size screen as the 1900 series. They're nice bright screens but they're not as easy to read as the new Palm screens.

Don't regret your purchase, you've bought a winner!

ROFL

"However, it's noticeably lighter (4.8 ounces versus 5.5 ounces) than the Tungsten T3."

Ya those 7 ounces, man I could walk for miles if I just didn't have those extra 7 ounces. Oh wait one moth full of pizza weights more then 7 ounces. That's being a bit picky. They didn't use the full screen pull down in the picture.... Hum do you think they are PPC fans....

Oh well, remember why it's called the dark side. ; )

I agree. I once switched from my faithful Vx to a Jornada PPC and realized there is nothing better than Palm

Ya the Jornada PPC I have one of those, it's a great dust collector! I use for 3 days then went back to my Vx also. Never PPC again!

i found some pics since i was wondering what vga would look like on a pda

this is insane:

the pics are from http://www.pocketpcparadise.com/
i didn't bother translating the text so i didn't read any of it on the site so i just looked at the pics
pretty crazy stuff
i also read somewhere that palm os5+ can already support 640x480 res but it's just that no one tried to do it
now that ppc is up i can't wait till palm does the same
i gotta see it in real life
must be a great drain on batteries and what not
as a side note i still have no desire to get a ppc

I am sure that Palm and Sony is going to make even better screens than the PPCs (They have been doing so for a long time :) )

So whats the battery life average for that device? 1.5 hours or minutes? ;)

Screen size also takes a big toll on processor speed, so I guess they will have to put a bigger (hungrier) chip in order to keep it running at a decent speed.

Or perhaps it will have the new Toshiba's alcohol based combustion battery!!! :p

The new HP 4xxx looks good. But having both WiFi and Bluetooth will kill the battery which is only 1000mAh. The T3 has a 900 and just Bluetooth and it's not the best. Brighthand has a article they just posted on VGA being big next year. In the article they said Palm os5 already supports VGA. Just no developers have used it yet. Main reason was cost.

Hmm, well I've had both PPC and Palm and I'd have to say that PPC is superior. Not to start a flame war. However, there seem to be more programs that I use that are avail. with PPC and not Palm. I do like the 320x480 screens that palm/sony uses, but overall PPC is better.

Tsk tsk tsk. Seems like we have a traitor in our ranks!! (just kidding)

I don't know which applications you use. But what I hated most of "PPC world" was the general interface and the fact that there are a few applications really worth it.

Would you care to elaborate?

I will to begin. For me, in order to launch an application, all I need to do is go to the today screen, and open and app (tdLaunch-freeware). If I want to see what I have for the day in terms of appointments/tasks, its on the today screen. For more detail, I use Pocket Informant.

Need to jot down a quick note? No problem! Just on the today screen, I have notestoday where I can jot down a quick number, note, or whatever. Many people complain about the steps it takes to make an apptment in PPC. All I have to do is press new at the bottom of the today screen, choose appt, and fill out the info. Not hard, but very easy. I can actually make a new appointment/task/contact using the same steps from virtually anywhere.

I don't hate Palm, I just think that PPC is better suited for my needs.

If i have to make a note. No matter in what app, game or state my T3 is all I have to do is press a button and I'm there. If I want to see my task, appointments and other stuff I just press the calendar button and I'm in a "today" screen. I can also launch the tasks, the appointments or even my mail. All these without using any third part app. :)

I also think you can customize a Palm better than a PPC. I know you can change the ToDay screen on the PPC, but are there other launchers that you can skin like ZLauncher? I think Active Sync scares off a lot of people with it being unreliable. I know some PPC owners haven't had any problems but they seem to be few. From what I've read over at pocketpcthoughts it seems to be a big problem. Just for the record I get what meets my needs. Right now it's Palm. I planned on getting the JVC PPC, but they canned it. It would've been a media power house.
