I just uploaded a couple of low res themes in the zlauncher skins section. If you want the backgrounds, you can get them in my member gallery (I think thumbs are also 160*160, so you shouldn't have any problems just saving the image to your hard disk). You must have an sd card and the zlauncher jpeg library installed in order to use them. Here's one (you lazy people):

Isn't this one also available for download on BryceArt.de (http://www.bryceart.de)?

For the record, I'm not accusing you of anything... :)

Probably is (maybe the high res version), it was Torsten that made the theme. The theme's idea started at a thread in CS (http://www.cliesource.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24170&perpage=15&pagenumber=1), and it ended up as a "suit" that included icons, alarms, backgrounds, and themes for different resolutions, and it included the work of many persons. I did the low res version of the theme for the final product. You can get the whole package in the yahoo group for toonpda (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/toonpda/). I think I'm somewhere in the readme credits...
I just wanted to upload it here to get the zlauncher section rolling :) .

You must hold the stylus in the background file in your card menu. A popup menu will appear and then you choose "background".
Anyway, these are low res backgrounds, and yours is a hi res+ device, so it will look awful. Download the whole toon suit from the link I gave in my previous post (you must sign in the group first) or pm me and I'll send you a 320x480 background.

Since the T3 can hold jpgs in memory, can you use those, too?

Didn't know that, thanks for the info.

How do you get jpgs into memory? I don't have an SD card yet...:( Better yet, is there a way to get a backround without having a card?

Jusrt hotsync the jpgs. The Photo ap can handle them (I just found this out today myselk :o)

There's some info about that on my web page:

http://www.festus440.happypalm.com/ZLauncher%20Background%20Images.htm

The project that will be following my ZL Iconset Factory will be a background image converter for ZL. Although many people don't have any problems creating ZL background images, the program may still be handy because if has features such as cropping, stretch to fit, custom sizes, etc.

The question is why can't I use the jpgs that are in memory? I tap on them and the menu doesn't pop up :(

I can't even get them to show up in memory. I used Festus's info as above and have back image with no card!:) I never knew using the simulator was so easy. It seems it is for Clie. Is there a ROM for T3 avail. (not that I have any use for it though) Thanks for the excelent and clear instructions.

Hey Festus! Nice to see you here! This may not be related to the thread, but I just had one problem and wanted to ask if you could help. It is related to your bitmap scaler (not related to the app itself though, but rather a problem with the skin I'm trying to convert). I ran into a 16 bit image problem, but I've been checking the images and haven't found the 16 bit one. Is there any way to track it down faster than checking one by one? Thanks!

I modified the thing to give you a list of the 16-bit files it finds.
You’re elected to be the guinea pig :D
Send me an email address and I’ll mail it to you.

I tried that, but Zlauncher doesn't seems to find it in internal memory.

I don't have an SD card yet, still waiting for Palm or someone to sort things out.

Any other suggestions?

One reason I left the Sony Clie format was their lack of Mac OS support, so the Sony similator approach doesn't seem like an option ( unless there's a version for Mac OSX that I don't know about).

Would anyone be kind enough to upload to POC or email to me some background images that can be used internally?

Thanks!

I know - that was my question, too. ZL must no be aware of the ability to load jpgs into memory :(

As far as other options - see Festus's site (link in post above). You can use the simulator to load images.

When I first posted a few background images on my website, I used my Clie NX60 to load the JPEGs directly to the MS and then used ZLauncher to create the PDB files much like Festus describes for the Clie Simulator. I posted these PDBs. However, I learned that these Clie created PDBs would not work on Palms. :( Apparently they are incompatible. I've sinced removed the PDBs from my website and replaced them with JPEGs. We need a simple converter to run on the PC to convert JPEGs and BMPs to PDB format that is compatible with all Palm OS handhelds. Sounds like Festus is creating one!

hucsman, what's up with the latest 3 themes? They won't work on my m130 like the previous ones. Is there some setting that needs to be changed?

BTW, thanks for doing these. The pool of lo-res skins is horribly shallow.

Hmmm... I don't know. I had a couple of extra problems converting these...could you be more specific about the problem? Do you have an aesthetic problem or will the file just not load? If so, is there any output you get about the problem? What Zlauncher version are you using?

Latest version. Says it won't work w/ this handheld.

Did the first ones work? I really don't see why this shouldn't work, you have OS4.1 right? Only difference between these ones and the first ones was that the bitmaps were double density, but they worked with my M505 and it is older. Anyone, any ideas? Anyway, I'll try to get to this by the weekend.

That must be it, since the others work fine. And BTW, anyone guess why the preview images in the Files section don't load?

I am also having problems with backgrounds on my T3. I have read iboar's how-to and with the T3 update I finally got an SD card.

http://www.palmonecity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=752

I put the jpegs in the /Palm/Programs/ZLauncher/BackImage directory on the card and installed the jpeglib. So I can finally 'see' the images in the ZL Theme Manager. However when I select the image as background all I get is the no-background image. When I try to preview the image I get a "Working..." message and it just sits there for ever.

Any ideas? I noticed that with the jpeglib installed my built-in Photos app hangs. Is that expected?

Thanks,

H

Here's what I usually do:

1. Right click on the image I want, Choose "save image as" and save it with some name.
2. Open the quick install tool and drag and drop the saved image there. It will automatically choose to be installed in the sd card. Don't change the destination.
3. Hotsync.
4. In my palm, go to a folder named "DCIM" that is next to the "palm" folder, independent of the Zlauncher, Launcher or programs folders (you could think of it being "at the top" of the folder structure of the sd card).
5. Localize the saved image through its name and tap and hold until a popup menu appears, then tap the "back image" option.
6. The handheld will refresh and the image will be the background now. You will also notice that in the theme manager the image will be listed in the back images categories and will be selected.

Thanks for the help. I seemed to have got this working somehow. I think that I was having trouble with the specificejpeg files I was attempting to use. I saved it as bitmap on my pc and quick installed it to my SD card. It was still somehow converted to a jpg but ZL was able to load the converted file.

The jpeglib still crashes my photos app so once I loaded the background I have to uninstall the jpeglib.

Hi Hucsman, you're my savior !!!!
It's been weeks and weeks I was looking for great themes for my Treo600 and you've done it !
I love especially the Bandit's Grant one. I just remark that there's something strange with transparancy. I have a little "border" pink-violet on the tabs...
:)

Wow...it's been so long since I transformed those skins... :) Sorry about the transparency issue. I don't think I´ll be able to correct it, since my M505 passed away recently :(, so I don't have any means to test.

Hi eveyone,
can someone tell me why the ZLauncher Themes located in the "Skin" part of this forum doesn't work on my Treo600.
I downloaded a few of the zips (Enzo, Azure, and Tropic) and neither one of these work.
When I try to choose it in the theme manager it gives me an error that says 'whatever theme' is not available for this handheld.
Can someone tell me why. It is there. I can see it in the option list, so why wouldn't it let me select it?
Any help will be greately appreaciated.

Isn't the Treo 600 160x160 resolution? That would make it compatible only with the low res resolution. Try with the "smal" ones.

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new Treo 600 owner trying to find hucsman's converted themes (160x160) to try them out with ZLauncher. Are they still available on the site? Can't seem to find them anywhere. Thanks in advance.
