I stood in line last night to see the panther demo and get free dog tags, but didn't take the plunge because I want to see if Panther works with:

Palm Desktop 4.1.2 (for T3, TE)
HP Photosmart 7150 drivers
Microtek ScanMaker 6800 drivers

Anyone have news on Panther & PD?

I also went to the Night of the Panther. I'll be installing it Monday. If all goes well, I'll be using my T3 with it tomorrow too. I'm still not sure which Mac app I'll use... (see my other posts here).

On a side note, Expose looks awesome! It will be one of those features that you'll wonder how you ever got by without.

I've been watching the Apple Panther discussion forums, and it appears that not all the HP printers are Panther ready, so it will be awhile before I take the plunge. I waited long enough with Jaguar -- I can't give up printing again.

that, and Microtek has not confirmed whether the new Scanmaker driver works in Panther. And Palm Desktop won't always install correctly under Panther!

But I really liked Expose and the font management program.

I'm up and running with Palm Desktop and Panther. I tried it with Entourage first and it didn't handle categories very well, so I went back to Palm Desktop. Entourage also didn't show birthdays (like how DateBk5 doesn't show them because of the new b-day field in the T3).

Palm desktop and isync are both working for me under panther, but weren't initially. Here is what I did:

1. installed panther as an update using archive and install. Hotsync failed to work after that and an error message on starting panther indicated a transport manager was missing.

2. Following a solution posted on Mac-Fixit, I went to the archived jaguar system and in the root level folder, opened libraries, CFMsupport, and copied the "Hotsync Libraries" item to the CFMsupport folder of Panther. Then, in libraries, open the Applications support folder and copy any folders from the Palm Hotsync folder that are missing in panther to Panther. I think it was just the Transports folder that had missing items. Doing this allowed my T3 to at least communicate via hotsync, but it would get hung up during the isync phase.

3. I next reinstalled the isync conduit and reinstalled the Palm Desktop sofware that came with my T3. Everything is working flawlessly now. Maybe step three is all I needed to do, but I think some of the problems that some were having is that the installer from palm wasn't installing everything it needed to under panther. Maybe that is just a problem for their posted Palm Desktop installer. They have a note that T3 and E users should use the software that came with the handheld, not the version Palmone has at their site.

Hope this helps somebody. Being able to sync again is great.
