View Full Version : A better mp3 player for the T3?

I just got my new T3 and I was wondering if there was an mp3 player that delivered a richer sound than the RealOne Player. Is there a utility similar to DFX (http://www.fxsound.com/dfx/index.html) that would work in OS 5? Thanks!

I got Pocket Tunes v2.05 Dlx
www.pocket-tunes.com
I am happy with it and I got a skin that looks like Apple's iTunes

Pocket Tunes is my favourite too and I like the fact that skins can go to SD unlike Aeroplayer, the other MP3 player that's quite good. The iTunes 4 revised skin is especially cool.

I prefer Aeroplayer because the support is better, but you should really try them out for yourself, because it's very personal.

No it's shareware ; but believe me Aeroplayer is worth the money.

My vote goes for Pocket Tunes, too. For most users, this is the player I would recommend. Of course, I have put alot of effort in supporting Pocket Tunes with my skins that I have created, so I follow up my words with action. As for support, the folks at Pocket Tunes keep listening to their users and keep improving their product. By the way, I have uploaded my skins at PalmOne City in the Skins -> MP3 -> Pocket Tunes section, which you can access by clicking here (http://www.palmonecity.com/sdownload/index.php?catid=8).

Hey Lance,
I use AeroPlayer but I am wondering what you like so much (better) about PT?
(This isn't flame bait, I'm just interested.)

Ok so there seem to be 2 main players when it comes to 3rd party player, Aeroplayer, and Pocket Tunes.
But what I have not heard though is why one is better than the other in the owners prospective.

I tried both and couldn't find a difference. I just picked one cause it was a couple of dollars cheaper (Pocket Tunes). Both have great customer support and are constantly improving their product.

I prefer Aeroplayer. I find that there's a quality difference in the Ogg Vorbis decoder between the two (or at least, my ears hear a difference) and, to me, Aeroplayer sounds better.

I've been trying them both and this is what I think:
Areoplayer difinetly has the best sound and it's EQ doesn't cause as much distortion as Pocket Tunes but I don't like fact you apparently can't delete songs off the SD card through the Areoplayer.
PocketTunes has a better interface and is a little more managable. The ability to set a hardware key to call up the player is really nice.
Cool skins are available for both.

You can set up a hardware key for Aeroplayer too, just go to the Prefs section, then Personal, and hit buttons. Pick your button and assign Aeroplayer to it.

I don't have that function on v 2.10.2 but I am still using the demo so maybe that's only available upon registration.

I didn't realize it was the same Lance.:) Yup, I like and have the iTunes 3 skin, plus my ZLauncher skin motif is similar. Additionally I have installed Apple's new iTunes for Windoze with a similar skin!:)
PS: I echo Kenny's sentiments!!!

I tested both and found that AeroPlayer indeed sounds better to me. The equalizer and bass boost in AeroPlayer produce virtually no distortion. Pocket Tunes' bass boost produced a high level of distortion in MP3 play. Primarily for that reason, I went with AeroPlayer.

I'm no techie but make my decision based on my ears ; have tried both aeroplayer n p tunes; finally settle for aeroplayer ( now on version 2.10). Generally I feel more comfortable using it

I've used both. When I ripped and encoded with CDex to ogg vorbis format, playing them in both Pocket Tunes and Aero Player seemed to give me a certain split second pause during the song, which was quite irritating. And then, Pocket Tunes crashed on me. So, I deleted Pocket tunes and then tried Aero Player again and this time, it worked perfectly without that annoying pause.
And I've been using Aero Player ever since. I love the T skin, the automatic screen off after 10 seconds, the ignore option of screen taps when the screen is off, the volume booster and the 5 band equalizer, which I totally love. Ogg files sound much better than mp3s on the Aero Player even with the equalizer and I haven't looked back since.
And, if you use and play ogg files, there's no trial period. You can use is for free without registering.
