As I said in another post, I am searching for an alternative to Sony to replace my digitizer ona T-615. The next question is, do I wait until late March when (supposedly) a few companies will be able to repair the 615 and then sell it to upgrade to the 665 (something like $300, there), or do I repair the 615 and keep it?

I am very happy with the 615 right now, but I've heard the 665's screen is much better in normal lighting and the battery life is supposed to be a little longer. That and a doubled CPU speed will (hopefully) help with some of my larger databases-- Bible, Dictionary, Thesauras, etc...

My question: Is the 665 that much of an improvement in screen quality and access times or should I keep the $350 in pocket for a OS5 T-series?

I just upgraded to the 665 from the 615 and the screen is much different in the 665 to the point it was the reason I initially made the upgrade. The difference is like night and day. And the speed being 2x the speed of the 615 makes the 665 access the memory stick and load apps MUCH MUCH faster. As for the battery, right now it doesn't seem to be as powerful and I've noticed that the brightness level of the 665 differs in that you cannot darken it as much as the 615's. But IMO its well worth the upgrade plus you'll have the nice magnesium casing. :)

yea, but that crappy brown and white stitched cover is quite ugly... i'm planning on getting a case anyways, though, so that solves that problem.

I like my t-615, but if I ws going to upgrade, I'd hang on for a while, and see what comes out next. It's been a while since the last T-series model, they must have something up their sleeve besides top-of-the-range and 'entry level' PDA's soon...

I just went from a 615 to an NX. I like this device more than I initially thought I would. Like Christmas all over:)

well, i found a place that is going to repair my screen for $70 and $10 shipping... sounds good enough to me. i'm sending the unit out on monday.

now, for a case-- which is better: Rhinoskin or Innopocket's hard case? (for a T665)

I have had an Innopocket which was fine but did not feel secure the way it latched. If you want a hardcase try the DSI. I have gone to a Vaja leather case which feels better carrying in my pocket and still offers good protection.

We got an Innopocket for my old T-615 and it was horrible. The Clie wasn't held in firmly at all. Returned it for the DSI and it's great.
That said, I got the Sena leather case for my T-665 and I love it!

I have had a DSI case since I purchased my T615 and it is great! Very secure; have dropped it too many times from my pocket getting in and out of the car but no damage at all. Highly recommended...

Dphar, have you got a link for that?

Sure...

Looks like they may be out of stock though, but the case workds well. Cut outs for all, secure holding of the clie. The only disadvantage is the you cannot place clie in the cradle while in the case. But you can hotsync or charge with the cable fine...

I had a M505 ans switched to a Sony T615 when it first came out. I did so for its screen and the fact that is had twice the memory of what was currently offered from Palm. I have since switched again but this time to a T665. I did so for its screen and the increased spead from the 66mhz vs the 33mhz chip. I found an added plus in the speed in which the memory stick is access by the T665. Its quite remarkable. I am very satisfied with the Y665 at this time. I plan to stay with it until Sony comes out with a 'T' series that has VG with a screen size like that of the NZ series.

I have the Innopocket for the 615C. Works great. The 615C stays secure but at times I need to bend the clasp to make sure the case stays securely closed.

Quiller,
I also have my T615 digitizer cracked... can you send me the link for that place where you're going to fix yours?

Thanks

http://www.palmpilotupgrade.com

I emailed them and confirmed they can repair the T615 as their website doesn't mention it.
