View Full Version : Weird Hotsync Problem

Something just arose on my setup... Yesterday I wanted to put a photograph on my wife's Zire71. That requires going through the Palm Desktop. However that one did not show the photo album tab. So after failing to get Palm Desktop to pull up the option, I got out the setup disk and reinstalled.

That successfully brought up the Desktop and the photo album. I was able to sync My wife's Zire and get the photo, even though something had caused Avantgo not to sync graphics. I had to re-sync it for Avantgo, which fixed most of the missing graphics.

I was able to sync my UX last night no problem. This morning when I rebooted my PC and tried to hotsync this morning, the moment the Hotsync gets to Identify User, it drops the connection. I get an interruption message on the UX. Looking at the log I see an error "An application on the PC failed to respond to a confirmation query. This application may need to be restarted."

I can't see what it is complaining about. The PC Log did have an error on a QuickOffice file. I disabled Quickoffice from being synced during log in and that failed to correct the error. I disabled several other syncs but still failed to get it to correct.

Is this a Palm vs. Sony Palm Desktop setup problem? Or something else? I only had problems with my sync AFTER rebooting and trying to rehotsync...

I noticed during the reinstall that Palm did NOT give you an option on where to put the Palm files.

Most Likely!

I noticed during the reinstall that Palm did NOT give you an option on where to put the Palm files.
That's because you already have Palm Desktop for CLie installed, so it doesn'r need to ask you where to put it.

I think you should try to reinstall the palmDesktop for CLIE.

N0-No-No! You have a corrupted application, either on the Palm desktop conduit or on the Clie!!!

You seem to be right -- But I still haven't found out WHAT it is that is doing it... Keep finding this on the PC Hotsync log...

HotSync Error:
An application failed to respond to a
HotSync notification. Please check the Palm Desktop for details. (8009)

I've tried to deactivate most of the conduits and even remove some apps, without effect...

I found this webpage -- http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/3216/faq_pg6.htm

Thanks to google.

I've gotten past the original error, but I'm trying to see if I can get stuff back...Looks like I have to REBUILD all CONDUITS for everything -- ON both machines...

UGH!!!

The problem is if some file or memory bit gets corrupted, it's all too easy to pass it on to the desktop. More often than not, it's related to one of the PIMs and a conduit to Outlook. You could reinstall Outlook or check the PIM db's.

Its back again -- My problem is returning == this time both sides.

I've tried repair reinstalls on from the Clie disks and Palm disk -- neither letting either side get past the identify user prompt - The hotsyncs abort after that...

Omni

are you running XP with a separate profile each for yourself and your wife?

That's how we've got around it on our PC. We have also found that if we switch profiles without logging out of our profile and then try to hotsync either Clie or Palm then it reboots the machine.

My husband also makes a point of disconnecting the other PDA from its cradle/cable before syncing the other unit, just to make sure.

Considering both our units are running OS5, they sure have changed enough things to make a whole heap of problems.

I ran into the same error when I upgraded to my T3. The problem in my case was a bad Windoze registry entry for Docs to Go. The solution (I knew I should have written this down!) involved deleting the registry entry and reinstalling D2G, but it was somewhat sensitive to exactly what was deleted and how it was reinstalled ("repair installation" option, I think). In the end, I called Palm Support, and a tech walked me through a series of steps that was just slightly different from what I had already tried, and it worked.

Good luck.

If I have to do the rebuild and reinstall I'll probably do the split profile. I set my wife up one, but she rarely uses it.

The last time I fixed this the fix entailed a reg edit fix that left the machine wiped as far as to any conduits Never did get my quickoffice back after that...

I ended up having to uninstall and reinstall the desktops on seperate XP accounts...

NOT a fun task... Conduits can be hell!

Thanks all

Sad that Palmsource themselves don't make a common Palm Desktop so that it will avoid syncing issues between multiple brands of Palm powered products

Is that Palmsource's fault or the fault of the licensees who make changes to the desktop application? Each licensee (PalmOne is now a licensee) wants their version of the desktop installed. So it seems to me that the blame can be laid at the feet of the licensees, not PalmSource.

Who knows --- each of the liscencees are veering more and more farther afield. The more we get multiple screen modes, resolutions, sizes, and non-standard palm add ons, the more its going to get hard to get EVERYTHING to work.

If Palmsource had tighter controls this wouldn't happen... but then we wouldn't have the Clie UX series, possibly many of the NX or NR series, The Tapwave Zodiac, etc.

The blessing and curse of such an unrestricted licence, unlike PPC which has so little diversity.

And while this is really tough on developers, it really makes consumer choice so much better. I appreciate the flexibility that PalmSource has given to its licensees but I also know that it means I may have to wait a bit for the software to catch up to the latest hardware.

Hi

I too have just encountered the dreaded Error 8009. What was, or where can I find the correction? I am getting withdrawl symptoms noy being able to Hotsync for over 48hrs:(

Is there somewhere that the error codes, their reasons and solutions can be found? If not can one be created on POC? (Lance I suspect that is a really big job, is it possible?)

Thanks in advance for your help

Cheers

David
