View Full Version : REALLY disappointed in my new stylus

Recently I lost my first (YES...FIRST) stylus. I looked around for what I thought would be a nice upgrade that also has a pen in it. After reading posts here and looking around a lot, I finally settled on the InnoPocket 3-in-1 metal stylus.
While the unit initially seemed to be perfect; nice weight, good looks, pen worked, I was sooooo disappointed when I placed it in my Clie. While the packaging says "Fits perfectly inside the silo of your Clie handheld," it fails to mention it doesn't lock in like the original stylus. In other words, if I turn my Clie upside down, the stylus falls right out! I'm thinking, "Great! $20 for a stylus that might not last a week!"
Anyway, just wanted to vent and warn you away if you have a T665C. I can't honestly comment on how it fits in other Clies.
If you guys have other suggestions, I'm sure I'll be looking for yet another stylus within a week.

I purchased one of those too, but I don't have that problem. Mine stays in place. It doesn't lock, but it does get a little tight while in my Clie. Of course I also have my Clie an and E&B case that folds over the top, which will help prevent me from losing it.
I am sure glad to have finally gotten a stylus with a pen in it again. I always seem to need one when I don't have one. It is not nearly as good as the Pilot Pentopia I had for my Vx, but it sure beats the stock Sony one.
You may want to try the rubber O-ring trick to get it to say in place.

Sorry to hear about your experience with the Innopocket 3-1 stylus, Geckotek. I recently purchased one for my T615 and it fits perfectly - even makes an audible "snap" when pushed into the silo. Perhaps this is another Innopocket product with quality variations, similar to their metal cases (alhtough again my case fits perfectly). I would contact Innopocket about a replacement or refund.

I don't know how many people use the Shorty (http://www.styluscentral.com/2in1comgrips.html), but I love it. (Here's a review (http://www.pocketanywhere.com/?content=review&id=110), and here's another one (http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/2in1comfort-grip-shorty-stylus-review.html).) It is a 2-in-1 stylus/pen that doesn't fit in the silo of the Clie, but fits perfectly in my LowePro case (http://www.pcconnection.com/scripts/productdetail.asp?product_id=242936)'s pen loop.
Here's a link to a few photos of my case with the Shorty (http://www.cliesource.com/gallery/showgallery.php?thumb=1&stype=2&si=Isa43J&cat=500&sort=1&ppuser=2509). It's most definitely become my favorite, by far over any others. Anyway, hope this helps.

I also use one with my SJ30 and E&B case. Do you find that it is hard to take the stylus out? I find that it fits pretty snugly but because I have to push the clie out of the case a little I have resorted to using a stylus/pen combo when I don't feel like taking it out of the case.

BTW on the Innopocket 3 in 1 what is supposed to be used to reset the CLie? The pen tip?

I, too, am a little disappointed with the Innopocket 3-in-1 stylus. It fits nicely in my NX silo, but whenever I take the NX out of my Covertec case, the stylus falls out! This didn't happen with the stock stylus. Its quite annoying. Plus, although the Innopocket is better than the stock stylus, it still doesn't have the great feel I used to have with my floating tip stylus from Pentopia.

The stylus tips unscrews to reveal a reset pin.
BTW, I had a Rotring Quattro for a couple of years and loved it! When I stopped using a binder to carry my PDA and started using form fitting cases, I lost a place to carry it. Hence my purchase of the Innopocket 3 in 1. I miss the Rotring, though; it was like a Swiss army knife of writing instruments.

Tape. Wrap some scotch tape around the barrel of your stylus until it fits snugly. Experiment until you find a place on your stylus where you want it.
Lately, I have not been using an in-PDA stylus. I have one that looks like a pen and just keep it clipped in my pocket (or in my pants pocket if I have no shirt pocket).
I did buy a replacement stylus that docks into the PDA, but it was a fancy one that lights up. It fits very snugly in the stylus slot. I pretty much have to pry it out when I need it. And, since the tip twists to turn the light on, it's pretty unstable to write with, so I only use it when I've misplaced my pen stylus.

What do you need a pen for?
Lately, I'm finding that I have enough PDA software that I don't use a pen any more! The only exception is when I sign a credit card form at a store, and they always have a pen.

Well, it happened. I was walking through my apt and noticed a stylus laying in the bathroom. For a sec I was excited cuz I thought I had found the one I lost. Then, I realized it was my new stylus. It had already fallen out. Luckily it was at home.
Regarding the case thing, my Krussell case has this nice little cut out right over the stylus silo so you can get to your stylus w/o opening it. Nice idea, but not in this situation.
I have a nice Y&C Quad Point, but when my last Clie was stolen along w/ my "man purse" of a case (big tri-fold w/ notepad, space for checkbook, etc...) I decided to go the flip route. None of the flip style cases had a place for a full size combo pen/stylus.
I really would hate to have to put tape on a nice stylus. Seems a bit tacky and I shouldn't have to do it. I may try the o-ring fix. If that doesn't work, i'll resort to the tape I guess.
As far as the quality of the pen, just a normal pen. Nothing special. Writes about the same as a disposable Bic I guess.
What do I need a pen for? To write! It seems I (or someone nearby) always needs one when I don't have one handy.

That's what Memopad is for (or Wordsmith if it is long).
PS Before the infamous loss-of-threads, I seem to remember a fix posted involving making the silo smaller, rather than making the stylus bigger...

It's available at Wal-Mart, Staples and on line at StylusCentral (http://www.styluscentral.com/sanphdmulpen.html)
Costs around $7.50 and pen/pencil is refillable.

Geckotek,
That's a good one... Tape... Tacky... Ha!!!!
Okay, I'm over it now... (Alright, so it wasn't *that* funny.)
I have the Krusell case also. I like the case, but why in the world did the designers put the stylus cutout in a FLIP case? Even though I have a pen/sytlus combo, I'd rather open the case to get at my stylus, than have it accessible (and easy to lose) all the time.
Does your CLIE sit tight in the bottom of the case, or does it tend to move up a little, away from the connector cutout? I ended up putting velcro on mine, to keep it tight against the bottom. (perfectionist freak)
