Anyone out there having slow hotsynv problems. I did the updates from the palm site yesterday and since then my hotsyncs have been taking over 20 minutes! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Which PalmOne do you have?

Also you may want to check where its hanging up. I've had problems in the past with the backup util getting hung. That could help trace the problem as well.
Just got a T3. Not running any backup utility as of now. My last attempt took 40 minutes. I immediately tried again (without making any changes to Outlook or Palm) and it's been 20 minutes and it ain't done yet. Emailed the problem to Palm and if they can't fix it I'm switching to PPC. I've had Palm's since the first Palm Pilot and the hotsync process has progressively gotten slower and slower. Probably because the OS is getting more and more bloated. Too much emphasis on being able to do things like multimedia and wireless, etc. This isn't what Palm had in mind when they started with the first "tool". Too bad. I may end up just using a simple paper planner and laptop in the near future. Sorry but I'm venting....you would too if you were typing this post and your Palm STILL HASN'T FINISHED SYNCING!!!!!!!!

Before you put more money into Bill Gates's pockets, let me say that my T3 hotsyncs well and fast. Mine hotsyncs in less than a minute, without AvantGo or Vindigo conduits set to ON. If I turn those two conduits ON, then it takes a little bit longer. Unfortunately, AvantGo servers are often very slow and can prolong hotsync, but that is the fault of AvantGo and not PalmOne.
I have to ask if you uninstalled you previous versions of the Palm hotsync software before installing the new one for the T3. If you have had several Palms in the past and have not uninstalled all those previous versions of hotsync, then that may be the problem. Past conduits will not work well with OS5.2.1, if at all.
If you plan to use the same username with the T3 as your old palm and then transfer everything to the T3, the following instructions may help. If you are going to use a different username then ignore what follows.
What I did was to make a copy of my c:\program files\palm folder and called it c:\oldpalm. I then made sure I had the install programs for all my third-party applications along with registration information copied to a location outside of the c:\program files\palm folder. I then used Windows's Add remove Programs control to uninstall my old Palm stuff including any conduits for third-party applications. Then I installed the Palm stuff that came with the T3 and did an initial hotsync as instructed. You now have a T3 with all the supplied applications but no third-party ones.
Now if you look in the c:\program files\palm folder you will see a folder for your username. Inside it you will find several folder that keep your data. For example:
c:\program files\palm\YOURUSERNAME\address
c:\program files\palm\YOURUSERNAME\datebook
c:\program files\palm\YOURUSERNAME\memopad
Each of these has two files like address.bak and address.dat. Rename these to something like originaladdress.bak and originaladdress.dat just to CYA with a backup. Then copy your old Palm files from c:\oldpalm into the appropriate folders. Hotsync and you now have your contacts, datebook info, etc. in your new T3.
Now you can start reinstalling your third-party applications (preferably one at a time). Each of these will setup its own conduit (if it has one) that will work with OS5.2.1.
After installing each third-party application, you may notice a new folder inside of c:\program files\palm\YOURUSERNAME, for example:
c:\program files\palm\YOURUSERNAME\BankBook4
Do as above, rename these files to CYA with a backup and copy the equivalent files from your C:\oldpalm into this folder. Hotsync and you now have your data for that program.
It takes time, but it's worth it.
This worked for me, I hope it helps.

Also, are you using the palm portable keyboard? There was a problem with the driver causing a very slow hotsync. I had this problem initially and my hotsyncs took over half an hour. I could even have a bath while the palm was syncing. I managed to get an updated driver from another forum (it was and still is not available from the palm website) and now do not have any slowsync problems.

Good point! One bad/outdated driver can slow down any system whether it's a Palm handheld or a Windows PC. Keep us posted on your progress. Good luck!
Thanks for the tips guys.
iboar - Appreciate the time you took to outline the "transfer" process you used but I uninstalled all of my old Clie programs before installing the software that came with the T3. Figured I would only reinstall 3rd party apps that I liked later. So far I've only reinstallled Avantgo (downloaded thier latest versions). Yes their server can be slow, but the hold up when I hotsync is during the Outlook sync. I think it may either be an incorrect version of Hotsync on my laptop or our corporate Exchange Server is just slow. I used to use Pocket Mirror with few issues, took 2-3 minutes to sync, but that's tolerable to me.
timyap - I haven't gotten to a keyboard yet. Thanks for the tip though.
Not sure if this has anything to do with it but there are what appears to duplicate Outlook conduits set up in my copy of Hotsync. Is this normal? Also, anyone know what the version of Hotsync came with T3? I have version 4.0 installed.

I started using the Palm supplied Outlook conduits and also found they are very slow, went back to PocketMirror Pro 3.1.6 and it is much faster, If you decide to go with PM be careful as there is a "trick" to installing it, PM support was great in helping out but the bottom line is that before you install you have to set each of the Palm Conduits to "do nothing" and "defualt" and then install PM, that's what I had to do ...

You can adjust the speed of your Hotsyncs. Open up your Hotsync, go to connection setup, open edit, open details. There you will see a variety of speeds. Both my TT1 and 515 are set to Hotsync on the highest speed.
