Hey all, i just opened my T3 and got it all setup and love it, except for the power button. The thing is super hard to push and sometimes I will thinkI pushed it only for it not to turn off. How do you feel about it?
Also, so i dont have to make two threads, how do you feel about the included case for the palm? I really ahte it. I loved the simplistic but very good plastic protector that was with my T2. Do you like yours, and if not, do you have a replacement/know where to get one?

The T|T3 power button is super hard to push
Another way to switch on your device is
1) Slide down
2) Press the center button in 5 ways navigation and hold it for 2 seconds

You can do this if you just hold the centro button becasue that is the clock and if you hold it the device goes back to the launcher. You think palm wouldve looked at that. My old TT2 has a great on/off switch. Heck, MOST palms have great power buttons.

I like the fact that its hard to push... I carry it in my pocket and don't want it turning on accidentally.
The flip cover reminds me of the old Clie N760 flip with a sligtly better connector. I'm hopeful that someone will come out with a plastic slider to protect the screen without adding much bulk...

I have found that using the power button becomes a lot easier if you push on a side (left or right), and not just the top in the middle. If worse comes to worse I can always just use the stylus.
Im with you tho, I want a better case/screen cover.

I like the rather hard push power button, as it's so easy to turn on elsewhere and does not come on accidently like my m515 did constantly.

Yea, after a day or two of using it i have learned that hitting it on the left hand side it turns on almost everytime. Just takes a while but i get used to it :)

I use TealLaunch to remap all my buttons so now my TT3 will go off when I press and hold the record button.
By the way, TealMaster support OS5!

I like the flip cover, a simple and effective solution.
The power button is fine, but on the wrong side:confused:
On my Clie it was on the right hand side:D

Thanks for this tidbit:) I've been fighting with the power button for 2 weeks and was about to return this T3 and get another one, just because I couldn't get the thing to turn off and on:mad:
Now when I press on the left, it's so easy! :p
Also, I like the flip cover, although I wish it were harder, like the CoverUp.

I dislike the power button. Too hard to push. While this prevents accidental power-on, its also hard to power-on when I want it to.
As for the cover, I am a bit disappointed. I traded my T|C for this and thought the C had a much better cover.

I gave up on the power button and checked both power on when opened, poweroff when closed. Not quite what I want, but at least I can turn it on and off now!

I like the look of Vaja's new Tungsten T3 Case (http://www.vajacases.com/vaja/catalogo.nsf/(ViewPPEN)?Openview&Cat=tungstent3) I already preordered one with the following color scheme http://kalel.netfirms.com/temp/vazabache_latte.jpg

The problem with the hard press on-switch is THE LOCATION OF THE TAPE RECORDER BUTTON! I still grab the unit by that button after 2 weeks! and it's softer than the power switch. I find myself opening to that App alot!
also, I need a dedicated button for the drop down menu!!!! or better yet a copy/paste button

What a cry baby
I used to complain about the T2 cause if I wanted a drop down menu silkscreen button i'd hafta open the slider. You don't have to do that with the T3 cause of the command bar at the bottom. Even that, most apps if you touch the screen at top the menu opens.

Well there are pro n con to the "on -off " button./ Initially I also was too unhappy with it n thought it was defective. Now I accept it as it'd be difficult to turn on the unit accidentally. Under preferences, we can always set the it top be off when we closed the slider. I always use the hard buttons to on the unit which I find easier

That's cause some of us actually read the manual.
If you want to be all 007 and not read the manual, don't go crying to Q saying it don't work.
If you didn't use alot of capital letters and exclamation points I would have given you the same information but left out the sarcasm. When you use capital letters and exclamation points galore like you did, you is a cry baby
If you wrote a letter of complaint to your boss would you use capital letters and exclamation points all over the place? No, cause that is not professional, it is immature.

Well the button is awfully hard to push but I remember all the complaints about the units that powered on all the time.
On this one Palm will not be able to win.
As for the case that comes with the T3,
What case???
I got a little flap cover.
Its far from a case in my opinion.
I also don't like the hard case that Palm came out with.
What is the sense in trying to get a smaller PDA if the case makes it larger then what already on the market???

I ended up returning my T3 and sticking with my T2. The T2 still has lots of life in it, it's got a great power button, though I do dislike the clear "cover" for it, but you take some bad with the good I suppose.
The only thing I *truly* miss from the T3 is the nifty little bar at the bottom that lets you change apps and get to the menu and turn on-screen-writing on/off, etc. That was a glorious piece of work.
Oh well, I didn't feel the status bar was worth the $427.99 that I'd paid for the T3, and I really didn't like the idea of selling my weeks-old T2 for more than $100 less than I'd paid for it. :)
That said, I always felt there was something a little "off" about the power button on the T3... it's like it had two levels of clicks - you'd hit the first level and think that's it, but there's another pressure level beneath that which you must hit to turn the unit off. And then on mine at least, there was a very slight delay between hitting the button and the unit powering off. Very strange.
The flip-cover definitely wouldn't be considered a "case" per se, but it's what I used with my old T665 and I loved that thing to bits. I had no problems with the flip cover, and wouldn't mind one that would fit on my T2. Alas, I'll probably settle for an aftermarket slipper-style case similar to the Vaja posted above.

Just my personal opinions:
1) The on/off button is a bit more difficult to use that it should be. I appreciate the fact that it won't come on by itself by accidental pressing, but it is a bit extreme.
2) On the other hand, I way too often accidentally turn on the unit by hitting the record button on the side, so the benifits of the on/off button being hard to turn on by accident is canceled out by that fact that it is way too easy to turn the device by w/ the record button. I realize you can override some of this behavior through software, but I'm basically stating options based on "out of the box" here.
3) I like the "flip" cover that comes with the unit. It doesn't do a good job of protecting the unit if it is dropped, but it does protect the screen from scratching when put in a brief case or your pocket.
4) Overall, the T3 has more good points than bad, and the issues mentioned above with the stuborn power button and overly easy voice memo button wouldn't detract me from highly recommending the device to anyone.

Hello all;
Woke up this morning and noticed that the leather flip cover was ripping from both sides:
1. Any of you having similar problems?
2. Can anyone tell me where I may order a replacement?
Thanks;
A l e x
honestly, at first i had no idea what u were all talking about with the power button on the t3 because mine is almost as easy to turn on like my t665's. it takes just the right amount of pressure and there is only one pressure level to push it. the other day i went to see a store demo just to compare my brightness. when i tried to turn there's on i felt the "two level" push u were all talking about. and boy was it stiff. this leads me to think that the power button thing is like the brightness or tint problem. it's on exhibited on some units. i am lucky that my unit has been so great and had practically no problems.

How long have you had your T3? I bought mine on Oct 1st and I have been using the flip cover that came with it since day 1 and as of now it still shows no sign of wear.

I have had it for three weeks or so (no abuse from my part), and the wear is terrible.

No, not really. I use it normally. Do you have any idea where I can get a replacement?

Wonder if this flap is something that I should think about selling on e-bay?
Mine is still in the plastic packaging.
I thought the flap was a total waste.
I have ordered a leather side opening Brando case, and a Proporta metal case.
Brando is on it's way (shipping from Hong Kong???)
The Proporta case, well they should take possession within 2 weeks last I heard.
When I get the cases, I might think about selling the flap if its a needed item.

i dont mind the power switch being so hard, i won't accidently turn it on. like someone else mentioned i'm always turning it on by accident via the voice record switch. fortunately i bought BT Pro and one of it's features is to disable the hard buttons. i set the voice button up for 2 clicks (i have yet to use that app anyway) and no more problems with it turning on. definately one of the better apps i spent my money on.
as for cases, i like the flip cover if i'm at work all day and i bought the hard case for when i leave the building and am out and about and want some real protection. it still fits in a coat pocket nicely so i don't mind the size.

Which hard case?
Palms T3 case???
I thought Palm was the only game in town until Proporta releases there hard case.
