I have been using a program called Dimmer on my Sony Clie NX80v.
It is a OS5 system and Dimmer have been a great find for me.
I have tried Auto dimmer but the Dimmer app offers profiles for different sictuation is a nice little app.
Has anyone else been able to get it to work on thre T3???
It installs and I can activate it but it does not show the comfigureation screen.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Does this program dim the brightness for nighttime reading?

Well it can be used for that purpose I suppose.
But I used it to save on the battery life.
After a set # of minutes the light would drop to the set level.

So is the "set level" lower than the lowest you can get with the built in dimmer?

You can set the main brightness level to lets say 50%.
After 30 seconds of an idle screen you can set it to drop down to 20%, until there is movement sensed.

So you cannot set the dimmer to go lower than the lowest setting on the t3?

no, I would think the lowest setting would be off!

I just tested this - it doesn't go lower (at least it doesn't go lower than the slider I can get when I tap on the time in the status bar at the bottom).

However, it has a couple benefits. It's easier to go by single percentage points (I usually have it dim from 9% down to 2%), and you can have it dim pretty quickly. I have a special setting set for reading e-books that doesn't dim as quickly, and one for "showing off" that's full brightness and doesn't dim.

One thing that might work well with your need for a darker screen for reading at night is using an e-book reader that you can change the colors of. I use PalmReader Pro, but I'm not familiar with the other ones out there. I use a parchment colored background with brown text which by nature isn't as bright as a white screen, but I would think you could even work with a light text on dark color scheme and significantly reduce the light given off while you're reading. Just glancing at the program I see included teal on black, yellow on black, and an extremely dark olive on black combinations.

Hope that helps!

The problem is that Dimmer does not yet work on the T3's.
Dimmer has a 2 stage screen.
The first does appear and work, which allows one to activate it.
The second allows one to create profiles and set the dim/timing up.
The second part does not as of now appear.
The author said he was on it.

Uh, I'm using something entitled "Dimmer" in the launcher, which when launched says it's Energy Dimmer 2.5a. When I trigger it (I put a brightness icon in the top bar of ZLauncher) I can choose the Profiles button and have successfully set up different profiles and switching between them works fine.

I have a T3.

Wonder what the issue is? I have the 2 Palm files that are being distributed to help apps like Datebk5 and AcidImage work - do you (or, for that matter, the developer?)

How do you make a icon with ZLauncher???
We seem to be talking about the same thing.
I just installed ZLauncher and have not gotten the whole thing down yet.
Thanks

Energy Dimmer works, so does Crash Pro on the T3.

by: www.79bmedia.com BTW, Excellent Support Too!

I have NOT yet found a way to turn off the screen short of turning off the T3.

Look in either the Top Bar or Bottom Bar in ZL preferences. There should be preformatted Icons ready to use.

Hi Larry,

I turn on and off my T3 using the select button. To turn on, press once then again to dismiss the clock. Much easier than the hard to press power button. To switch off, I set in TealLaunch to hold select button to turn off. Works great and I hardly use the Power button anymore.

I don't think that's what Larry meant. On a T or T2 you could switch off the backlight in the backlight slider-menu. This is not possible (yet ?) with the T3, and because the lowest backlight setting is very bright (even brighter than my former TT in the brightest setting !) it consumes a lot of power of course. I hope a 3rd party will create an option to turn of the backlight and make the lowest level of brightness better for reading in bed and preserving the battery.

cheers

I thought you could turn the backlight off in Palms pref.'s???
If you dont want the slider to activate it.
Am I missing something?

Ken,

I was referring to being able to shut off the backlight.

Thanks! :)
