There is design fault with SJ33 according to technical support of Sony HK. The IR cannot hotsync with notebook.
Unless you connect with power supply, the IR can hotsync. There is not resolution yet and awaiting the factory to resolve.
I just bought it, and have this problem with my SJ33, how about you?

I hotsynced my SJ33 this week with the laptop for the first time. Did call Sony tech support and they advised to have a full charged before syncing but it worked abeit slower than USB.

Today i tried (for the first time) to beam my address card to a palm m130. It didn't work... they were only 5 cm (1inch?) from each other and my battery was fully charged (100%)
...strange...

It works, but it is slow.
Did I mention it was SLOW?
I mean SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.
I have a small hotsync cable I carry with me. A much better solution and it takes up almost no space. IR consumes vast quantities of power compared to the cable, which is another good reason to purchase a cable.

There is a new update from Sony to fix this, I assume it solves the problem.
Anyway, IR is slow no matter what. I have a portable USB cable, it's cheap and easy. Great for transferring MP3's and other large files as well.

Ok, people -- the metric system really isn't all that hard to figure out. I'm Canadian and we use the metric system, and even I know that 5 cm is not 1 in because 2.54 cm = 1 in, and 5 cm = 1.9685040 inches. I just thought I'd point that out. I figure everyone deserves to learn something new everyday!

At least you get to live in the metric world! Try working in the imaging field in the US. I'm flipping between inches, millimeters, and points all day long. It's enough to drive a person crazy. Come to think of it... I finally have an excuse, er, I mean "explanation" for my insanity. :-)

Go here-

It was posted on the front page of Cliesource a couple days ago, so I thought everyone here knew. Let us know how it works (I don't use IR)

I performed the update a few days ago and my SJ 33 works fine with infrared now. Initially, it didn't.

I applied the patch a week ago and IR still doesn't HotSynch unless the S33 is plugged into power.
