Got my Tungsten T3 today, for $350 with no coupons, no rebates and no price matching. I didn't even have to haggle. Here's all I did:
1) I talked to God (it's called "praying").
2) I went into a Circuit City here in Chicago and asked for the manager. Of course the customer service people wanted to help me first, and when I mentioned that I wanted to discuss pricing they immediately told me "no way - we do not price match against the internet!". Now, I happened to have come armed with (in addition to God) print-outs of pricing for T3s via www.shopper.cnet.com and www.techbargains.com and the famous Office Max coupon.
When they finally brought out one of the managers, I told him I understood what his staff had told me, but asked what CAN you do? He said, "well I can take $50 off". Folks, that was the whole conversation - no arguing, no whining (from either of us) no lenghty deliberation. we walked over to the counter and he told the cashier take $50 off of this new-in-unopened-box Tungsten T3. He even smiled and thank me.
This savings, coupled with what I got when I sold my beloved NX60 and all traces of Sonyism, brought me pretty close to even. I gave the extra money I though I'd need for the sale to God. Try prayer It works! Persistance helps.

Lucky! Of course another manager or another CC probably would have ended in a different result. Some stores like Fry's won't even match the prices on their own website! At least the one in Austin won't. They claim the website doesn't have their overhead. It is very frustrating to look up a price on Fry's website, go to the store expecting to pay that amount, then find out it is higher and they won't bargain. Other stores like Radio Shack will actually lower their instore price to match what is on their website.

I did something similiar at CompUSA when I purchased my Sony NZ90. I told the person behind the counter that I planned on buying the NZ90 with an extended warranty and that my friend had just bought one from another CompUSA location and got a discount. I asked what they would do for me.
He came back out a few minutes later and told me that I could have the warranty for half price. I saved $50 which was great, but my friend got the warranty for free ($100).

Managers have the authority to lower prices by as much as $100. It is always worth a try to ask!!:)

Well, I paid full price for my T3 at Office Max. When I exchanged one unit for another (original one had a problem with the stylus silo), I tried to get them to match the web price with the $50 off coupon - no dice. :(
Oh well - I did buy mine originally before they went on sale. And when I tried to exchange it, I had to call 4 stores to even find one. Guess I shouldn't complain too much.:p

After reading this i was hitting myself becasue i felt eally stupid buying my T3 from CC and not doing my research to save me some money. So, after reading it I went online, found a new T3 for $348 with shipping, printed it out, and drove to my CC with receipt in hand. Asked for the manager and then showed him the receipt. At first he said he would take $30 off, since they arent supposed to really match WWW i guess... After a little pushing i got him to take the full $50 off. :D It does work.

Great news, Justin!
Worth the effort wasn't it?
To the others, have a little faith and expect to get what you want.

Well...I still have to pay $21 tax...so it would be the same price as if I got it from OfficeMax...
But I gotta try it the next time I buy a new PDA :)

I don't think the talking to God step is really necessary. I've obtained similar results with retailers and never do that. It's kinda like asking your dog for permission to buy a T3 - you get the same result whether you do it or not.

It's your own personal choice if you wish to pray to God before you do this :p
