I just wanted to give a tribute to my VERY FIRST Palm OS based handheld.

So, thanks Palm IIIx for all of the many school assignments, appointments and contacts that you held for me. While I have moved on to your more powerful and more colorful, bigger brother (T|C), I still appreciate all that you did for me during my Freshman and Sophomore years of college. I'll never forget you!

Does anyone else have any tributes to share about their IIIx or any other III series Palm they would like to share?

The IIIx was my first Palm too. I used it constantly while at IBM to keep track of appointments, meetings, contacts, etc. It served me well, especially when out of the office and away from my laptop! I still have it, though I don't use it anymore.

Well I just love my Palm IIIxe which is *still* my first Palm handheld!

I mean...I've nearly decided to move on to a colour device (TE) but I'm finding it so hard to say 'bye' to my fantastic hard-flipped, long-lasting alkaline buddy!

I mean...I've had my IIIxe for years and it still looks like new and now I'm hearing how the chosen successor (TE!) manages to scratch itself with its own soft and mushy flip cover while having a battery that conks out after 3 or 4 hours!!!

yeah...I love my IIIxe :D

My IIIxe is still working like a champ. My daughter uses it now. =) I'd given her my prism, but it died, so she went back to the trusty IIIxe.

My IIIxe was my first Palm PDA and I used the heck out of it for school and play. I still have it, though I have changed the hard black/gray cover for a see-through blue. It looks great and works great still.

My son has the new Gameboy but will ask to play the old Palm games every once and awhile.

Moved on to Clie but I am all Palm.

IIIxe is my third palmtop.
The first one was Compaq Aero 2100, the second - Philips Velo 1. So IIIxe was third, however I still use it and I am not going to change it to anything else in foreseeable future.

Three-four weeks with one battery set - no one can give me it today.
All my projects, researches, appointments, family and pet care depend on it ;-)

IIIxe forever!

I loved my IIIxe, as it was my first Palm OS handheld (I originally owned a Newton MessagePad 120). Unfortunately, it developed a nasty case of the dreaded "digitizer drift" within the first six months, so back to Best Buy it went.

The Visor Neo they gave me as a replacement was nice, but the IIIxe and its flip cover had a special "Beam me up, Scotty" geeky charm. The blue Neo was too cute, but served its purpose until I fell in love with color and the sexiest handheld ever -- the Sony Clie T615C.

My T615C is slim and sexy, but has a battery resistor problem that caused it to overheat and scorched the Hotsync connector. A handheld that doesn't hold a battery charge, can't sync and might burn down the house isn't worth much, so I'll be checking out the Tungsten E and Sony TJ series this weekend. Right now I'm just lamenting its loss.

My first and currently only handheld is a Palm IIIe. I bought it for $180 Canadian when it was discontinued. But my nice new laptop hath not a serial conector to sync. Arrgh! I have my heart set on a shiny Tungsten E and 256mb SD card. Plus, I have the option of using my PalmGlove Neoprene Case for the T|E when I get one because the T|E will fit (Thank the Lord for Velcro!)

My IIIxe has been through a lot over the last three years and is still as good as new. It seems like it is pretty much indestructible. If it wasn't for the lack of colour screen and small RAM, I would probably still be using it.

I do miss my IIIxe...can't quite part with it yet (it's cradle is still hooked up to my computer).

I can only hope that my new T|E will serve me just as well.

<snip>

If your laptop has an IR port, you should be able to use it to sync instead of a serial port. I had done that for some time on my Palm IIIx. If you're just keeping contact info/schdule info, it's not too bad. If you're keeping a lot of stuff on it (AvantGo, etc.), it can take a long time to sync.

Palm IIIxe was my first. My wife still uses it, it wouldn't trade it for anything else (Battery power is the most important thing to her). Thank you Palm for the IIIxe!

The IIIx was also my first Palm, it replaced a Sharp Wizard 512KB PDA.
The IIIx still sees service being used by family members.

I´m still using a IIIc as a main computer (no PC at home).
Email and internet is a great chapter with it.
I also built up my homepage with it only.
