A friend of mine had one and was jealous of my IIIe's larger screen so I wanted a consensus.

I didn't really mind the faceplate that came with the m130, but overall, the devices aren't attractive.

It was attractive at first because of it's (realtively) low price.
Now it's unattractive because not only does it exemplify Palm's crappy quality control (m100-m105 backup capacitors, m125 digitizer woes) but also because of the black-eye Palm received for it's attempted fast ball on the LCD colors of the m130, and of late many m130 owners have found their m130's rear case simply and literally cracking and crumbling away!
Add to that the fact that Palm simply made the faceplates too expensive (20 dollars, remember?) and they just happened to disappear from their lineup pretty fast too.
Now you can only find them in little corners here and there.
Palm would much rather forget the m100 series ever existed.
Overall the m100 series was frought with troubles of one kind or another.
I learned alot about the OS and handhelds on them, but at a cost.
(Never did get that rebate on my wife's m130 either.)
I turned to Sony, and bought a PEG SJ-33, and it's been great.
It will take a while for me to trust Palm, Palmone, or whatever they'll be calling themselves by the time I'm ready to give them my money again.
My condolences to T3 owners with fried memory cards.

The vast majority of Tungsten T3 owners have not experienced the memory card issues you describe. Being non-propriatary comes at a cost. IF palm created and controlled the specifications for sd card manufacturing, there would not be the issue of fried sd cards, but Palm instead chooses to use a less proprietary memory solution than Sony's memory stick. Sometimes good things come at a cost.

At a cost to the consumer?
Not acceptable.

I had an m100 for 10 months. I bought an m125 faceplate at gethightech.com and it looked kinda more pretty.

The m100 was my first PalmOS device. After realizing how usefull it was to have a Palm I quickly ditched it for a color Clie.

I agree, the m100 [was] a great beginner PDA. I loved mine, I carried it everywhere with me. It saddened me when it went thorigh the washing-machine

I LOVE the idea of faceplates, wish more palms still did that. Only one that does it still is the Clie SJ33... Boy am I happy :)
Otherwise, the small screen was annoying, especially for graffitti, but it was crisp and hid the low resolution.

I miss it.:(
I came to PDA's too late for the M-100, so I went sony. now after hires, 16 megs, and jogdial, I am glad I didn't look for a bargain on ebay during those early stages into the world of PDA's. and got a M-100 :)

Yeah, the m100 was a good starting PDA. I went through a few of them. The low price meant I wasnt as careful as I should be, and though they survied a few drops, they couldnt handle the rough treatment very well. Read a lot of books on them too. Just enough space for a couple of small novels, or one biggy.
They still are a very good PIM device IMO. Gave my last one to my mum, and shes finding it pretty useful. Havent looked around at te lastest lot of entry PDAs, most people wont spend the big $$ untill they know just how much they will use them.

Hi!
Palm m125 was my first handheld and I think that it is absolutely amazing! :D
I got a new one from my mum's friend, because she wasn't using it and I love it from the first time I saw it! :)
It looks cute to me and I like it! :)
With the memory card added, it has enough storage and since Resco Explorer has great backup option, I don't worry about data loss anymore. :)
It is really a great device and since I bought a keyboard for it, it has almost completely replaced my laptop in the college, when I have to enter a large amounts of text and thanks to powerful calculators, it can also do some pretty complex tasks. I also sometimes use it as a remote control, but mainly to tease my friends and family! :p
And since LCDs are so crappy when (trying) to use them in direct sunlight, it is excellent device for reading all kinds of documents.
I know that this thread is old, but if someone is still using one of these Palms, please write your own experiences! :)

I started with a Palm III that I got from my dad when he upgraded to a Vx. I was heartbroken when it died. I needed a replacement, but I couldn't afford a m5xx or a Clie, so I ended up with an m125. I thought the design was clunky (read: fat and ugly), and I missed the larger screen, but it got the job done. Other than the SD card slot, I honestly felt that the Palm III was a better device. The face plates on the m125/m130 were far less offensive than the m100/m105. It was quickly chucked in a drawer and forgotten after I got my T3.

The thing I miss about my m125 is the battery life. I could get a month or so out of a pair of good AAA cells. (My Pilot 1000 could go 3 months, though.)

hehe
You'll probably say that I'm crazy, but I just bought a m100! :D :P
I paid around 18 $ for it, it was quite cheap! :)
I got only tje Palm and a case for it, no cable o cradle, no software CD, but I beamed everything I need to it and it works great! :D
But there is one thing that interests me - which one consumes more batery power - m100 or m125? M125 has SD slot, faster processor and more memory, so I think that it drains the batteries more, but is the difference in battery consumption noticeable?
Thanks for replying! :)
Having used both an m100 and an m125, I'd have to say the m100 is slightly better on batteries. Also, the m125 has a manufacturer's defect where the capacitor used to hold the charge while the battery was being replaced failed, so most 125s (including mine) that didn't get sent in under the recall (I didn't find out about the recall until they'd already ended it) need a full backup/restore every time the batteries are replaced, thus draining a LARGE percentage of the overall battery life.
However, the SD card is worth it, IMHO.

Thanks for the reply! :)
I've been playing with both of the them for several hours today, but since I use the rechargeable ones in the m125, I cannot compare their battery life, but as soon as I recharge them and put them in the m100, I'll start monitoring how much this little beauty can last! ;)
But there is another thing that bothers me right now...
Currently, I perform hotsync only with my LifeDrive...
With m125, I'm making backups on the card, so when the batteries are gone, I don't have to worry...
But what should I do with the m100?
How to preserve its data? OK, I know that 2mb of applications is not that much to transfer, but I would hate to set the programs up again if I lose the data...
Any suggestions?
Is anyone syncing 2 different Palms (by that I mean OS5 and OS4, or OS3.5) on the same computer? What to do with DocsToGo then? On the LD, I have version 10, and on the m125 version 6...
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me! :)
