There is design fault with SJ33 according to the technical supports of Sony HK. The IR Hotsync does not work.

Only when you connect it with power supply, you can use IR hotsync, there is not solution yet. Awaiting the factory to resolve. Sony may get back all the SJ33 from the market.

I bought it already, I got the same problem with mine SJ33. How about you?

Sorry to burst your bubble but my hotsync via IR works fine. Maybe the reason it is reported by Sony HK is that it is a problem with their version of the sj33.

No, he probably just works for a competitor and is just out TROLLING around to drum up negative support.
He's obviously too embarrased or too much of a coward to register.

For anyone who do not believe my post can make a call to Sony HK the contact is:

Mr. CM Yip
Senior Engineer
Customer Services Division
Direct Line: 2372 1673

Email: chunman.yip@sony.com.hk

I did cheat. Man, I am suffering this problem and wish to get it fix asap.

IR hotsync can work well only when it connects with Power Supply Pack. It does not work when relied on battery.

I've seen this problem in =ALL MODLES= of Clie, very few examples.. about 1 out of 50. This problem could be solved after soft reset or a little bit wrose, a hard-reset. Please believe me because I've dealt with more than one thousand units of Clie by my hand.

Yet I haven't seen this happened on any SJ33, so I can't say the solution is as simple as all other previous modles, but try it!

Thank you. but I did what you suggested to me and Sony's engineer was sitting with me to solve it out. The solution is still pending.

I went back to the retailer, and the shopkeeper has tested the other SJ33 in stock. all of them has same problem. The retailer in Hong Kong is famour - Broadway Electronics. No cheating!

I do not know why some people do not like this post, I am telling the truth and wish the other friend alert of this. On the other hand, Sony got to know this and fix it asap.

Can somebody help?

the issue isn't with the post so much as your inappropriate tactic of posting it repeatedly, at least 6 times in this forum and at least once in the general forum.

now that you're registered, and if you stick to posting once about your issue, you'll probably get more civilized, helpful responses.

i tried the IR on a store model here in nyc, and it seemed to work just fine. the only thing i could suggest is trying to convince sony to send you a new model. but if all the hk models are defective, and you truly need this function, perhaps you need to exchange it for a different clié or different brand.

sorry i couldn't be of more help.

Fine! I took your advice and approached Sony HK, they are willing to replace a new model or even refund all the money.

But the problem didn't resolve. According to Sony's Engineer, he informed me that office in Japan is teaming up to solve out this problem after his report. The primary explanation from Japan was the design originally tempted to reduced the power consumption when using hotsync. Even so it works with Sony Viao (they outsourced IR sensors) but they didn't test this function with other notebooks.

My notebook is Asus A1300 but the retailer tested all their SJ33 with Compaq and has the same problem.

I decided to wait for the solution as I am happy with the attitude from Sony. They are quite helpful and facing the problem positively, the Sony Engineer promised to lend me a short USB cable as temporary measure.

I need to assure that if this problem only happens in Hong Kong. Anyone has the model SJ33/H (and SJ33/G, same design as I was told) and got this problem, or otherwise, please come up, I think it is helpful for Sony to fix it asap.
