There are people working on it, but so far it's not been pretty. As long as the old apps are in ROM, there are issues running the new ones, including the fact that only the old apps sync. My guess from what I've read is that for the new apps to work properly PalmOne would need to issue a ROM update.

Well the "updated" PIMs are in truth, NEW apps.
1. Installing the new PIMs won't overwrite the classic PIM apps. It would be like installing a 3rd-party app (like Agendus or DateBk).
2. To give the impression that it did, PalmOne set the classic PIMs to hidden so that it wouldn't appear on the launcher.
3. The new PIMs have different creator IDs to their original counterparts.
4. They don't even use the same database.
In reference to the 4th point, you might ask, "What happens to my old data?"
The answer I believe, lies in the updated Palm Desktop software that came bundled with the 2 new Tungstens.
Somehow it has the ability to "convert" the old data to the newer versions.
Whether this happens upon first installation or during each hotsync, I don't know. Any TT3 / TE user care to share any suspicions of this conversion process actually taking place?

p.s. I'm looking for the (new) Palm Desktop 4.1.2. Any ideas where to get it?

Does have anyone have any indication if older Tungstens would be able to be updated to the new PIMs, legally? I went through the JackSprat route with my Clie and really don't want to go through it again.
I'm very happy with the T/2, and don't want to change, but the expanded address fields are among the things I miss from my Pocket PC days. I'd even pay for this upgrade. Are you reading this, Palm?

Here is a story I found on www.clieuk.co.uk:
Achim has just sent me this- "Just got an Email from PalmOne regarding my question whether the new improved PIM functionality found on the T|E and the T|3 will be made available for us Zire71 users. This is what it said: Thank you very much for your inquiry. I understand that you require information about the availability of the 'Palm OS(R) with PIM update' upgrade for your Palm(TM) Zire(TM) 71 handheld. Achim, unfortunately, I am unable to comment regarding the exact date when the upgrade will be available. You will need to check the URL below occasionally for updates: http://www.palm.com/home.html"

By the way: you don't need Jacksprat to update. Just follow the instructions (forget about the hard reset).
