What are the chances PalmOne will put the new T3 PIM apps out for T|C users? Sure would like to have them!

Probably not good, but one can hope

Probably slim to none, but there are some VERY ingenious people out there that might rip them for you. Just give it time!!;)
Just go down to a store with it on display with an SD card (or just beam) and a copy of FileZ ;)

I've seen a note on another forum where a guy has the new apps on an older machine, but with the original apps still in ROM he's running into all sorts of problems. Sounds to me like this would take a ROM update from PalmOne to work properly, unfortunately.
And the likelihood of that is pretty low . . .

I'm sorry.. I haven't experimented with the new T3 yet, but what's so special about the new PIMs?
I've never liked the built in apps anyhow. I always upgrade to better versions like Datebk5, Supernames, MemoPlus and TodoPlus.
Can someone fill me in on how special the new PIMs are?

The new pims would be nice to have. There shouldn't be an issue with OS5.21 to OS5 should there?

For a better description of the new PIM apps, you should read one of the many reviews that are out on the 'net. I'll give you a quick idea, though.
Given that the T3 is aimed at businesses, the changes enable closer integration with MS Outlook. The Address replacement is called Contacts, and has more fields such as multiple addresses. The new Calendar seems to have taken so many features from DateBk 5 that at least one reviewer sees the hand of CESD in the new PalmOne app, with categories, appointments that can run across midnight, etc.
The 16 category limit and the 4k limit on memos, etc. have both been removed. There's a new conduit specifically for Outlook that PalmOne wrote to sync all the new info.
There's more, but that will give you a sense of the changes.

I wrote to ask Palm if they planned to make the new PIM apps available to T|C owners. Here is the reply I received:
"...currently the PIM update is available only with the newer versions of the Palm handhelds. Unfortunately I am not in a position to comment on when this update will be available for the Palm Tungsten C handheld as it entirely a business decision taken by the Company. As soon as any update is available it will be made available at the Palm, Inc. website. I suggest that you keep referring to our webiste for future updates."
There seems to be (small) chance here. I suggest that T|C, TT, and T2 owners write to Palm to let them know that we want those new PIMs. Perhaps with enough feedback from customers Palm will release them.

I don't have a T3 or T|E (yet!) but I am pretty sure there is still a 16 category limit. We're gonna have to wait for OS 6 for that to change.

I do have a T3 and you are correct - the category limit is still there. Memos are now 32k instead of 4

Sorry for the mis-statement! That's what happens when you shoot from the hip after a shot of Interferon. :)

Good post on Brighthand's T|C forum by a guy in Australia who tried to port the new apps to his T|C. Interesting stuff, but not encouraging.
That was me. here's the post:
OK, I finally got to spend a day in a department store with a T3 on display. Using FileZ, my SD card and some beaming, here are my preliminary results.
1. WebPro 3.0
This works, is available in another thread, so I won't continue on that one.
2. VersaMail
Didn't get it
3. Calendar
This is the new Date Book. It has a different creator code, so it doesn't replace your T|C Date Book. What was really weird, is that on the ROM of the T3 is ALSO a Date Book. I grabbed that to, and noticed its marked as Hidden, as to not confuse users... although I don't know why it's there. Anyway, if that was installed on the T|C as well, Date Book was then hidden and only Calendar showed. What's REALLY bizarre, is it uses its OWN database for storage, in other words, not DateBookDB. This meant that even though I could run it, use the new agenda view, it didn't pick up any of my existing info. People are reporting success using iSync and the T3, so I don't understand how that works. Anyone?
4. Couldn't get Contacts and Tasks off the unit.
5. Got Memos off, but there are no visible difference, just a different database again MemosDB and no 4k limit. It appears that the main 4 new PIM apps use new databases.
5. All I could notice in Note Pad was slightly update alarm clock icons (full color, nice)
6. Couldn't install Expense or Kinoma onto the T|C... were reported as corrupt.
7. Dialer, Phone Link, SMS and the dial libraries all work!!!
All in all it was a very painful experience. Certain files are flagged as ResourceDB's and once they're on your device, it won't reset and you can't delete them after a warm reset... in other words... hard reset only. SO, THIS PROCESS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! Luckily, I was prepared. I'd still love to know anyone else's failures/successes with this type of process.
I've done further research and gotten the new PIM's to function perfectly on a T|C, HotSyncing and all. However, I've lost the Quick Connect feature in my new Address Book (Contacts). I am now on a quest to get it back though and will succeed! See more details here:

Jay,
Thanks for the link and the info. As a DateBk 5 user I'm most interested in the new Contacts app. I'll give it a try when I get a chance. Have you used just one of the new apps or do you need to have them all in RAM?
Cork
I've found that to enable any of the apps to sync, you need that PIMSupport file. Once that's in there, none of the original PIM's launch, so you would need all 4. Remember though that I am only one that has tested. Would like to hear other's experiences.

All or none; so essentially I need to wait until CESD gets DateBk 5 updated to support Calendar and Tasks.
Again, many thanks for all the info. If I get a chance, I'll give it a try and post the results.
New PIM Features
Woo hoo! I've finally completed my mission in obtaining all of the new software functionality from the new T3 and/or TE. Here's how:
Here are the files required from a T3/TE ROM:
Address Book.prc
Address Book_enUS.prc
Calendar-PDat.prc
Calendar-PDat_enUS.prc
ConnectLib-cctL.prc
ConnectLib-cctL_enUS.prc
Contacts-PAdd.prc
Contacts-PAdd_enUS.prc
Date & Time.prc
Date & Time_enUS.prc
Date Book.prc
Date Book_enUS.prc
DateBookAgendaBG-PDat.prc
Memo Pad.prc
Memo Pad_enUS.prc
Memos-PMem.prc
Memos-PMem_enUS.prc
Note Pad.prc
Note Pad_enUS.prc
PIMsSupport-pdmE.prc
Tasks-PTod.prc
Tasks-PTod_enUS.prc
To Do List.prc
To Do List_enUS.prc
You'll notice the original four apps and their overlays, the four new apps and their overlays, plus PIMsSupport and ConnectLib. These last two files are the missing links.
The original four apps act like stump or conduits. They hide the original ROM apps and they act as a conduit (true meaning of the word) to the new apps.
PIMsSupport is what enables this communication between the new apps and anything else that talks to them via the old apps (like Palm Conduits or 3rd party PIM apps).
ConnectLib enables one of my favorite features, Quick Connect, in the new Contacts (Address Book). Earlier TT and TC users will recognize, and if like myself, require it. It is not required unless you want this feature.
So, install all of those after a hard reset and then perform a soft reset to enable them BEFORE you hotsync your PIM data back onto the device. The presence of these files ensures hotsynced data goes to the right places.
Lastly, to get full dialing, SMS, enhanced Quick Connect and other phone capabilities, install these files (I got my copies from my Tungsten E software CD):
ATPhoneDriver.prc
ATPhoneDriver_enUS.prc
Dial.prc
Dial_enUS.prc
dialer.prc
dialer_enus.prc
EricssonT39m.prc
EricssonT68.prc
MoHiSp1Lib.prc
MotorolaTP280i.prc
NMSCPT.prc
Nokia6310i.prc
PhoneLib.prc
PhoneLib_enUS.prc
PhoneLink.prc
phonelink_enus.prc
PhonePnl.prc
PhonePnl_enUS.prc
PMHDB.pdb
PMNDB.pdb
SerialPhoneTask.prc
SerialPhoneTask_enUS.prc
SmsLib.prc
SmsLib_enUS.prc
SmsMessenger.prc
SmsMessenger_enUS.prc
Sony-ET68i.prc
StdGSMDriver.prc
StdGSMDriver_enUS.prc
Lastly, if you want VersaMail info to show up in the new Calendar agenda view, you need VersaMail 2.6 (I also got from TE CD):
BGService.prc
MMConduit.prc
MMConfigFPI.prc
MMHtmlPlugin.prc
MMMailTo.prc
MMNotify.prc
MMPluginMGR.prc
MMPRCPlugin.prc
MMSDCard.prc
MMSmartAdd.prc
MMTextPlugin.prc
MMUnzipPlugin.prc
MMUpgrade.prc
MMVCal.prc
MMVCardPlugin.prc
MMWave.prc
MMWizard.prc
MMWordPlugin.prc
MultiMail.prc
PalmSGHiResFonts.pdb
PalmSGLowResFonts.pdb
I noticed differences in ALL of the VersaMail files above, compared to their counterparts in my TC's ROM. Even still, I still left out installing the fonts, as they were in ROM, and don't invision any trouble using the originals.
Warranty: Do this at your own risk. Don't even THINK about holding me responsible or "requiring" my help if something goes wrong.
Legal: As the owner of both a TC & TE, I feel I am in the right tinkering with this kind of stuff. If someone deems otherwise, or a moderator of this board doesn't feel this info is fit here, please let me know and I'll remove it.
Cheers!

Awesome job, Jay!
One thing you don't mention is the need for the T|E's (or T|T3's) Palm Desktop software, which I assume would be required to display the additional info. Or are you using Outlook?
Thanks for all the info!!!
Cork
I'm using iSync on a Mac so I don't yet benefit from the additional fields. If you do want this benefit, yes, you must install the version of Palm Desktop included with one of these units. Thanks!
