View Full Version : Could someone make better alarms?

I would love to see a developer make a program or a database that would allow Palm OS5 users to have polyphonic alarms. Even better would be mp3 files like windows mobile alarm programs. I'm not sure if it's possible, but I wouldn't know because I'm not a programmer.

Could someone fill me in on the feasibility of such a task?

When I had a Sony Clie I loved the rich midi songs to wake up to, but so far nothing on the Palm front other than short .wav files. I know Sony has a dedicated media chip in their devices, but if Palms can play mp3's and Astraware makes music pdb's for their games, I'm sure something is possible.

Can't the T3 play wav? Wasn't there a hack for that?

I'm using Geek Sounds that I got from Palmgear. Not the same as the sounds I had in my NR but certainly better than the built-in ones. Maybe those will tide you over until somebody comes up with something better.

There is a program out there to play wav files but everything I've read says it doesn't work too good.

Search around on PalmGear and you will get results for programs that can change the alarms. I know for the Clie there is an app that allows you to play any wav file. I'm sure there is one for Palm too.;)

What's the 'best' app for this purpose?

Not sure that there is anything at PalmGear to use wav files individually as alarms. (Or at least there wasn't anything the last time I looked last week.) This has to do with the fact that the Palms don't have that separate chip for sounds and because the developer community for Palm-specific apps is not as active as the one for Sony.

Wouldn't there need to be a OS5 hack to use those alarms in datebook stuff?

I'm using geeksounds right now, but I would rather use rich sounds like Sony uses. I've tried to use the program Wavelet, but found it way to buggy.

so whats supposed to happen to hacks when OS6 comes out? obviously the os 5 hacks wont work, unless they make a hack for them to work, is that possible?
