Some people seems to have a lot of complaints about the T3

here are some:

1. battery life to short
2. why is there a slider?
3. d-pad is not suitable for gaming
4. no WiFi

I am not trying to justify the short battery life but that's the trade of with a bigger screen.

If you don't like the slider then get a PDA without one. Maybe the TE will suit you.

I don't remember PalmOne as advertising their products for gaming. Buy a Gameboy or the Zodiac (the same price. A whole lot bigger and heavier). The gadgeeter review complains about this. Not trying to be snide but they have shoulder bags that's why the UX-50 or the NX series isn't a big deal to them. Me, I only have my pants pocket.

WiFi will drain your battery dry. But I do wish it had one :D I guess I will have to spend for the Enfora.

Just my two cents.

I like the new hiRes+ screen on Palm but not the slider.

It seems that no single device will please everyone, that's for sure. After a week with my T3, the speed, compact feel, extra space and great screen have definitely won me over. For $200 less than a comparably equiped SONY UX series, I feel like I got a pretty good deal.

However, I do like the idea of a full 320x480 screen visible without having to open the slider. If this design could be created while maintaining the same compact form, it would seem like a nice step forward. Also, WiFi would be nice but only if they integrate a much higher capacity battery. While battery life seems about the same as with my TT, I can always count on a having some juice left over after a day of heavy use. If the battery were running out during the day, regardless of the handheld, I'd be pretty disappointed. I don't think the T series handhelds current battery could tolerate it, as others have mentioned.

I must agree with dmxmd, if the T3 with slider does not appeal to you then purchase a PDA with a slider. You have lots of choices.

I personally dislike all Pocket PC products and exercise my freedom of choice by not purchasing a PDA that runs Pocket PC.

Of course, I also understand this is a very free country and everyone is entitled to their opinion and their right to express such. :)

Well I for one like the slider.
It answered my desire to have a larger screen and also stay small in carrying size.
As for the battery I am used to the mSeries palms and a few Sony's so time will tell.
I as recently returned to the land of Palm from SOny.
I switched over a year ago and well found that I liked the Palm units better.
The Sony NR/NX series started to feel more like a toy then a tool.
I found that all the nice extras weren't really what I needed or I guess wanted.
The fact that this new T3 is lighter, smaller, faster, sleeker and more practical for my needs is just what the doctor ordered.
Now I have to figure out if I want to sell the NX80v with all its accessories.
I love the fact that I can re-use my old accessories with this new model.
Unlike a few of the other PDA company that when a new model comes out you need to purchase all new accessories I can just whip the dust off of them and plug them in.
Well anyway that's my opinion.
Thanks

Do you think it would be possible to just remove the dpad and the four other buttons and put them somewhere on the side? That way you have a full 320x480 and no slider. I wonder why they never thought of this?

I heard that they postponed it til 2004. But you do know about the Enfora Wifi portfolio? what do you think about that? it's a 2 in 1 package. Wifi with it's own power and a portfolio to protect your PDA. Of course it's kind of big so you won't be putting it in your pocket...

I once drooled over the T615 and it's sibling T665 but the problem was there was no distributor here where I live. So I was stuck with Palm. I resisted buying the m series because I felt the price and the features wasn't worth it. I looked over at Dell and HP but no thanks. Most people here uses Palm.

I finally bought the T|T when it came out. I loved the T|T especially the idea of the slider. Small and compact though a tad heavy.

I sold it so I can get the T3.

I'm sure i'll find something to complain about the T3 and you will all be the first to hear it :D

There are also a lot of people complaining about SD cards not working and becoming nonfunctional after using them in their T3. I have the T3 but have decided to wait until the dust settles before I plunk down a few bones for a 256mb card.

Otherwise no complaints here. Slider doesn't bother me...just takes a little getting used to. But it is faster than a flip-twist-fold of the clamshell design. But this is more of a personal preference in my fast paced job. And it reduces the size when carrying in my pocket.

I know. That's why 10% of me is hesistant to buy the T3 (70% wants to run and buy the damned thing and the remaing 20% is trying to shut up the 10% :D)

But a forum said that the problem seems to be confined to SD and those more than 256MB. I don't know. I wish PalmOne would just do something about this.

I think some guys object to the slider maybe because they are used to carrying around bags. I'm not. The slider helps keep the Tungsten small and compact. Of course I wish the slider had a button that you can press so that it slides open and close automatically :D :D :D

nag nag nag

I am not sure if the SD card issue has not been blown out of proportion.

I have three 512MB Panasonic cards and three 256MB Lexar cards and have had no problems. The cards have been used in everything from a m130, Zire 71, T|T, T|2 and now a T3 with no degradation in performance.

I use an external reader to load MP3 files and books onto the cards so that may explain why I have not had any failures. But I do use one for a daily backup and it has survived so far.

I don't like the slider either, however it is definately the best bang for the buck in the world of Palm OS. Anyone notice the little white lines that are below the blue launcher when slider is compacted? It appears that he LCD's stay on (L) (R) side when the slider is compacted, strange to me.

I came back to the Palm camp in August with the purchase of a T2, after a fling with Sony (NR70V purchased in May 2002). All I wanted was more memory. On the day my T2 arrived, the T3 was confirmed. So I had my T2 for a couple of months, which gave me a chance to figure out whether or not I liked the slider. As it turns out, I rarely opened the slider on my T2.

I bought my T3 on 9/26. The T3 is almost the perfect PDA for me - it's small, has a great screen, fast and best of all, has 52meg of memory available for me to fill up :) So, I'm pretty pleased with it. I can live with the slider. Annd I haven't had any of the SD card problems that others have complained about. The battery life is fine - not as great as the T|C I owned for 2 weeks (took it back - hated the keyboard) but I still manage to use it on a normal workday without running out of juice.

Plus, I'm hoping to get back into skinning again. That's what made me enjoy my NR as long as I did.

I have no real complaints about the T3 at all. I'm having fun with this unit. It's a keeper (at least until OS6 comes out :))

Everything else of the T3 is excellent.I love it.The only few complaints I have though;

1.Slider (WHY OH WHY?)
2.Blue silkscreen (Why can't they just make it black or greyish?)
3.Awful battery life

1. Why not? Why not?
2. PalmOneCity denizens are working on that
3. set brightness to the lowest and don't use BT if you don't need it.

My biggest complaint is with the VG not remembering it's last state when exiting a non-hires+ app. I can't remember if my NX70V had that problem, but if so ZLauncher may have addressed it.

I have held the T3 for less than 5 minutes and all I can say is :D :D :D

As for the d-pad. I think the design is fabulous. It can be used both in the upright and ladnscape mode. I think if they stuck with the old design, it would have been really awkward to use the buttons when in the landscape mode.

Thumbs up to PalmOne for a very smart design :D

I think the T3 is a fantastic Palm but I have two small issues:

1) I can't afford it at the moment (i.e. wife would go crazy on me)

2) It doesn't have a user-swappable battery.

But I might just buy one anyway!

Well, I now have two T3s and both of them are fantasctic. I was concerned about the second one's display after reading another thread but fortuantely both mine have great screens.

One of its best attributes is being able to use it in either landscape or portrait mode, something very much lacking in my UX50. And IMHO, the newly designed dPad is way cool and is actually much better than you realize because it works as you would expect it to in either landscape or portrait.

My only concern is that they are a little bit power hungry but not so much a problem to worry about it.

Now the big decision is when do I give my wife hers or make her aware she now has a new Palm Tungsten T3 and must give up her Zire 71. Woe is me...

I have to second this posting...
Sony BLEW it when they decided to ignore the Landscaping/Portrait option.
And yes I also see that there T3 is a very hungry puppy.
Now I am comparing my findings against my NX80v..
In my opinion the NX80v does have a last longer then its predecessors.
Oh well not a biggy I still have my sync charger for the car from my m515 days.
Guess I will find it and put it in my car for a rainy day..
Still think Palm have released a better product then Sony on this one.
Glad to have returned to the Palm world.
