Ok, I have been trying for a week to get this to work with no luck
Adhoc connection (peer to peer) between my PDA & laptop for a wifi hot-sync.
I have searched the BB for answers and found a lot of info’ but still falling short of my goal.
I do not have a home network or high speed internet, just want a peer to peer connection.

Equipment:
Sony Clie TJ37
ThinkPad A21p laptop computer equipped with
NETGEAR MA 521 WIFI pc card 802.11 b

Computer:
Profile name - Clie to ThinkPad
Network Mode - Ad-Hoc
SSID - Clie to ThinkPad
Transmit rate - Automatic
Channel - 8
Encryption(wep) – disabled
Power saving – off
Transmit power – auto
Preamble – auto
Fragmentation threshold – 2432
RTS/CTS threshold – 2432

Computer hotsync software setup:
Local USB / Network chosen as connection method
Network settings (TCP/IP):
Primary PC Name - WAT1835.corp.water.com
Primary PC Address – 169.254.217.10
Subnet Mask – 255.255.255.0

Clie TJ37 setup:
WLAN Setup:
Profile name - Clie to ThinkPad
SSID - Clie to ThinkPad
WEP – none
Connect mode – Adhoc
Channel – 8
IP Address - 169.254.217.10
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway address - ? (where do I find this info)
Primary DNS Address - ? (where do I find this info)
Secondary DNS Address - ? (where do I find this info)
Power Save Mode – disabled

Clie hotsync setup:
(opening screen) – modem / WIFi selected (Clie to ThinkPad)
Modem sync pref’ – Network
Lansync pref’ – local hotsync
Primary PC Name - !!
Primary PC address - 169.254.217.10
Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
Connection setup – Name “Clie to ThinkPad” , connect to “Local network”, Via “cradle to cradle”

What am I missing..? any help much appreciated..!

If you look at your settings, you should know where the problem is. In same network, IP addresses are unique. But both your CLIE and PC are using same IP address.

Try to specify different IP addresses for PC and CLIE. And I want to ask you, that IP: 169.254.217.10 is set by yourself? This should be automatic assigned when Windows can't locate DHCP server (although I'm not sure). I suggest you try to use: 192.168.0.1 (PC) and 192.168.0.2 (CLIE).

Gateway IP in CLIE setting should be PC's IP. For DNS IPs, you don't need them if you don't use internet.
